OH GOD!
do i have to take my Motherboard out of my machine to fit the Scythe Shuriken CPU Cooler? or simply add the clips that come with the new CPU and attach it to the motherboard thats already in my machine WITHOUT removing it? if i have to take the motherboard out, i will have to pay someone to do it! this is turning into a damn nightmare, was probably better off staying Noisy HERE IS MY PC MOTHERBOARD Motherboard Specifications, P5LP-LE (Lithium) Motherboard Specifications, P5LP-LE (Lithium) |

thanks Oli!! i am VERY Relieved
also, i have heard that SOME fans dont work in some PC`s? what i mean is IF you attach the new CPU cooler and turn your computer on, it may not even work because the fan speed is different from the one that comes with the PC when you buy it.. i dont even know if the Shuriken is going to work? how do i test or know for sure? i dont want to damage my PC

Solve such a problem IF it occurs - not before it does.
![]() Leave the side panel open when starting the PC up with Shuriken the first time. When you see the fan spinning everything is alright. In your PC BIOS or with several tools in Windows (e.g. Everest) you can monitor the fan speed. Shuriken comes with a 4-pin connector. Virtually all newer socket 775 boards support the 4-pin PWM regulation as Intel themselves delive their boxed Core2 CPUs with a 4-pin PWM fan. So don't be alarmed now - just report back if something goes wrong or if you have further questions. You won't damage your PC even if the fan wasn't spinning up at all as all modern CPUs have internal sensors and countermeasures for overheating (they'll just power off if getting too warm). But I'm sure everything will be fine. You are referring to other threads in this forum - please ignore them for now as they cope with very special problems connected to single mainboards or mainboard series' from certain manufacturers.

Thanks Oli
before i remove my existing CPU Cooler, if i attach the Fan that came with the Scythe Shuriken to my old CPU cooler, and it then spins, will this let me know if everything will be ok? i dont want to remove the old one, put thermal paste on it, then install the new one, then start the machine up and nothing happens

If you plug Shuriken's fan into the fan connector on your mainboard where at the moment the stock cooler's fan is connected and you start up the machine you can see Shuriken's fan spinning BUT as you use the stock cooler's power connector its fan won't spin up so the stock cooler would run in passive mode (= fanless) which the Intel stock cooler is not designed for!
So please test only for a few seconds and don't boot into Windows as - depending on your CPU - the stock cooler is not capable to handle a modern CPU in passive mode. As soon as you plug out the old fan everything should happen quickly. Don't let the system get under heavy load (Windows boot) or there is a chance that your CPU will overheat! Basically you seem to be much too afraid concerning this installation of Shuriken. You really should relax.

Step by step:
1. At the moment your stock cooler is actively cooled with a fan. 2. This fan is plugged into the 4-pin connector on your mainboard. 3. If you want to plug in the Shuriken's fan to test if it spins up you have to unplug the stock fan. 4. When the stock fan is plugged out the stock cooler is no longer actively cooled. It runs passively. It is not designed for that. 5. Even with Vista installed you still have a BIOS and a BIOS screen but your PC manufacturer has hidden it by enabling a feature like "silent boot" in your mainboard's BIOS. 6. When the system starts up just press the PAUSE key on your mainboard to halt the startup process. This should give you sufficient time to test fan of Shuriken. Then switch the PC off by holding the power button of your sys for more than 3 seconds. 7. If Shuriken spinned up replace the old stock cooler by Shuriken. 8. If Shuriken didn't spin up then connect the stock cooler's fan again to the mainboard connector and get back here again.

Hello Oli
okay, my new CPU Cooler should arrive tomorrow when i get home from work i dont have a PAUSE key on my PC Keyboard, ??? i think i will simply remove my old CPU cooler and fan and apply the thermal paste, then add the new CPU cooler with its fan and turn the PC on, i dont know how to get into the Bios Screen as i dont have one, i know it has to be there, i just dont know how to make it appear i really am very scared about all this, of course i am, i havent done one before, if i would have known how much you have to do, i would have stayed with the noise, lol why do they have to make things so damn complicated, bios, motherboards, fan speeds!!! i just thought you could unplug your old CPU Cooler and plug the new one in and thats it, now im finding all this stuff about BIOS, Fan Speeds, Thermal Paste, etc etc etc etc etc
