Fan direction in slim desktop

Hi,

I plan to have the Big Shuriken instead of the factory cooler on my AMD Athlon II X4 645.
I use it as a HTPC in a slim, horizontal desktop case.

Cool air can come into the case trough side inlets (supported by a case-fan) and warm air can exit through a big outlet just above the CPU.

I have the "feeling" that flipping the CPU cooler fan by 180° - having it to blow air just upward trough the air outlet - will result an overall cooler system.

What is your opinion?

I'd also advise to use the pull method instead of pushing air down through the cooler when you got side inlets. I am using this method too in a Coolermaster HTPC case.

Do you use any additional system fan to blow directly on the cooler? (e.g. to utilize the heat-sinks directly on the CPU, below the big radiator "feed" by the heat-pipes)

No, but my case also offers fans blowing in instead of passive inlets only. I am using a 500 prm fan for blowing in on the side of the case.

It doesn't blow directly onto the cooler but ensure some more general flow of fresh / cool air.
