Sup,
I'm thinking about applying a different heatsink to my Club 3D HD4870 1024MB OC Edition graphic card, cause the default one is quiet loud, I turned down my kabuto fan and case fan and all you hear is the graphics fan, also when cpu fan and case fan are at max speed. In games the fan of the vga cooler also turns up and gets even louder. Also with the standard heatsink on the praphic card I can't control the fan speed with CCC I guess it has something to do with the Club3d Bios on it. I wonder if it might be dangerous to change the heatsink, cause I read some articles which describe high temperatures on those little voltage transformers I guess thats why I made some photos of the back of my graphic card to let you see if there might be any problems. The vrams are cooled with thin copper plates and in the back there's another small heatsink. Can I simply let these on or do I have to change them with the ones of the setsugen? Another thing I noticed is that the setsugen seems to be pretty high, it reaches like 20-30mm (don't know exactly)over the top of the graphic card, so I'm afraid I can't close the side of my case then. My Case is a Enermax Vostok black. Here are the pics of my current graphic card layout: (detailed back vga) Imageshack - sdc10053n.jpg (case overview) Imageshack - sdc10048.jpg (found a closeup of my graphic card) http://www.aqua-computer.de/prodimg/...karte_typ2.jpg |

Seems you'll have a problem - The PCB of our cards are same.
Setsugen will set upon marked capacitors on picture 2 http://www.scythe-eu.com/forum/setsu....html#post9210 |

hmm I watched both cards closely and I think I noticed that the capacitators of your Powercolor 4890 are bigger than those grey boxes behind them, on my Club3d 4870 the capacitators and the grey boxes have about the same height.
I'm not sure but maybe those little 2mm~ make the difference watch closely at both pictures: (Powercolor 4890) http://www.geeks3d.com/public/jegx/2...890-pcs-02.jpg (Club3d 4870) Imageshack - sdc10055x.jpg |

Think, you're right. These capacitors are high as you said.
What's about the cooler on the VRM's ? On the PCS 4890 it's fins are about 40mm high, they're also conflict with the fins of the setsu. But this can be "handled". The capacitor thing only could be solved for the 4890 by cutting some material off the fins. Last edited by Genghis99; 01-25-2010 at 04:39 AM. |

you mean that cooler in the back of the card? yes yours is pretty high, mine is just a little bit higher than those capacitaros/grey boxes like I guess 2-3mm, but I didn't measure it...
Still I'm not sure if I should give the setsugen a try on my graphic card considering all those known bad issues... |

sick of waiting, i just ordered a setsugen and a better fan for the back of my case as well, also a scythe fan :P
well then I see if the setsugen fits or not, if not I can still send it back and get the money back. But actually I hope it does fit... Personally I'd be very pleased if Scythe added some nice stickers to all of their products cause now my computer is really "supported" by scythe. It has a Kaze master, a Kabuto and if everything works fine a setsugen and another slipstream as a case fan... A nice little scythe sticker right beside the Phenom and Gigabyte sticker would be really really great |
