I want to replace the Antec fans of the Antec P183, because they are too noisy and the top fan is resonating a lot which make the top of the case resonating and humming.
I read in the reviews that sleeve fans are not usable for horizontal mounting? Why? I saw that the Scythe Slipstreams are very quit, but these are sleeve fans. How about the S-flex? These are fluid bearing. Is this usable for horizontal mounting? Which fans are the fans to go for? S-flex of slipstreams? (or others?) Also which rpm? I want them to be quieter then the stock Antec fans (at low). The main problem is with the top fan. The stock fan is sleeve and when you hold it horizontal, you can feel that the fan is generating much more viberations than when you hold it vertical. So I need the fan what is generating the less viberation as possible. Thank you. |

Hi,
i dont know where you read that sleeve bearing is not usable for horizontal mounting, but it's not the truth. But surely there are differents in the quality of the bearing if you compare good fans with cheep fans. In your cases you have to make a decision. The S-flex are more the Silent fans and the Slipstream is more a high airflow fan. My suggesten here are the 800 rpm models. S-FLEX SFF21D (800 upm) 33,5 CFM = 58 m³/h | 8,7 dBA | DC 12 V | 0,10 A SY1225SL12L (800 upm Version) 10,70 dBA / 40,17 CFM = 68 m³/h / DC12 V / 0,10 A Now its up to you, if you want more airflow or want less airflow with -2 dBA. Both fans are usable in all orientations without any problems. Cheers Chris

Thank you very much.
I read about the sleeve and non-horizontal mounting over at silentpcreviews.com. Also I noticed a very much increase in vibration when I hold my Antec stock sleeve fans horizontal. But I believe that Scythe fans are more quality. Is there any difference in generated vibration between the S-flex and the slipstream? I read with the S-flex about an extra magnet and so. Maybe it is best to take a S-flex as a top fan outtake and two slipstreams for front intake and rear outtake? |

both fans have a absolutely minimum of vibrations, so there is no big difference between these two. So the only thing you have to decide is if you want more airflow or lower dBA
