Hi,
I just installed a 500GB spinpoint drive in a Quiet Drive. The disk is really quiet except for the "seek" noise that i wanted to get rid of. After installation the noise from the head seeking can not be heard anymore but instead a very low frequency "humming" noise has occured. If i touch the Quiet Drive assembly I can feel a vibration. I guess somehow the drive is self oscilllating or something? I was quite carefull when installing and I am fairly certain I did install it correctly.. Any ideas ?? |

Hi,
Did you mount the Quiet Drive into the 5.25" bay? It could be that it is tightened too much so enclosure does not work well, because the screws hit the Quiet Drive directly. Greetings

I had a similar problem... I bought 2 QuietDrives for my Samsung HD501LJ but the vibrations didn't get better in any way. They are more quiet naked on simple foam than they are enclosed in the Scythe QD mounted in the 5,25bay. I think if you uncouple the drive on the bottom of the case they would be more efficient but screwed into a 5,25bay or even with slides they are not as efficient. However, noise not created by vibrations are definitely dampened by the QD.
