Hey there,
as stated in the topic, it's as sad as it is true: your Musashi VGA-cooler isn't compatible to the Vapor-X Version of Sapphires Radeon 4870. The interessting thing is, that it is not due to mounting problems of the VGA-cooler itself, no. The holes for that are just like the standard describes. Its the voltage transformers, that are the problems. To see why, first look at that good picture of the card: Radeon Card notice that you have to remove the passive cooler on top of the voltage converters, because its height would block the Musashi-Cooler. And here starts the problem. Underneath that passive-cooler is a slimy, sticky foil, which is supposably used for heat-transfer to the cooler. You also need to remove that, to stick the passive coolers out of the musashi-kit onto the converters. And thats the point, where none of the provided coolers of the kit would fit. First: nearly the whole width of the board is filled with voltage converters. They are packed close to each other, so there are not just 4 or 5 of them, just like on the standard-card. and the second problem is: the passive heatsinks just don't stick onto the converters. It seems the surface of them is too smooth for them to hold properly. Anyway, I was able to avoid falling down of the heatsinks with a makeshift-solution. I made a small but long cardboard-strip and placed it vertically between the heatsinks and the vga-cooler. So the cooler is pressing down the cardboard-strip and this is pressing the heatsinks against the voltage converters. You may ask now, how it comes I have heatsinks onto them, where I said they don't fit. Well they don't, exactly that is. I was able to combine some of them in a way, that the converters where covered mostly. It's also part of that makeshift-solution ![]() So... I guess you should add that particular card to your incompatibility-list. |
