Dear reader...
As of August i am the proud owner of a Scythe Mugen SCINF-1000 CPU cooler. Before i used to have an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, which cooled my CPU to 35-40 (idle) degrees with a vcore of 1,425. I bought the Mugen because i thought the AF7 made a lot of noise and everyone convinced me that the Mugens cooling was waaaaaaaaaaay better. Installing the Mugen was really easy, but when i turned on my computer, on stock speeds and voltages i was shocked to see that the Mugen did 35-40 degrees on a 1,35 vcore. Here is a pic of the CPU and the Mugens base Am i just talking p00p or is this temp way to hot for a Mugen? Here are some pics of my airflow. http://www.pcprofiles.com/uploads/users/3/253-1.jpg http://www.pcprofiles.com/uploads/users/2/252-2.jpg I know that it isnt the original Scythe fan on the Mugen, but that fan died a few weeks ago, and there werent any Scythe fans in stock at my local computer shop. The fan on the CPU isnt the problem because it has more CFM than the orinal fan, makes less noise and runs at 1000rpm instead of 1200 (Pls dont flame me for using Tacens fans! )I hope to hear from you guys soon! EDIT: Forgot to mention system specs! First of all, thanks for the quick reply!
I know that at this time the temp isnt very high, but i used to run 3,6ghz on 1,425vcore with a stresses temp of max 45 degrees, and that was with my old crappy AF7. When i did 3,6ghz @ 1,425 vcore with the Mugen the temps were 50-55, which is abnormal for this extreme cooler. In my opinion, the mugens temps should be 10 degrees lower than they are now. Could i get those 10 degrees off by lapping? if not, what else could be the problem? Does the thermal paste make a lot of difference? Because i didnt use the thermal paste that came with the mugen, because i couldnt find it, so i used some white-ish coolermaster goo. I know my airflow isnt the problem, because everyone says OMGWTF GIEF UR AIRFLOW! Oh and btw, this 1,35 vcore is the stock voltage for an E6750, if i go below this vcore i get BSOD's after a couple of hours of gaming. EDIT: I also remember, that i once touched my Asus P5N-e SLI's northbridge, and i immediatly burned my hand because damn thing was like 70-80 degrees or something (even tho Everest says its only 37 degrees :S). Because the Mugen has a big base, is it possible that it draws the heat from my northbridge, explaining the high temps? Last edited by Astort; 10-22-2008 at 11:59 AM. |

I know it is the stock voltage but running at stock speed it is surely undervoltable.
And 50-55 at full load is not abnormal for Mugen. Let's see how Scythe will comment on this.Mugen's base plate could be uneven. At least more than that of your Arctic.

I also think that the base is somewhat uneven, take a look at this picture. Notice the dark spot in both my CPU and the mugen? It indicates that the pressure at that point is higher than the rest, which forces the thermal paste away from that point. Normally that point should be on the bottom of the CPU/baseplate, because of gravity.

Hello Astort,
I just forwarded this thread to our product management, they will answer you in shortly. Kind regards, Stefan - Scythe EU Hamburg

I found a graph @ the dutch second best hardware/tweaking/overclocking website, and it said that with a 60 watts CPU (6750 uses 65) the average temp with the fan at its highest speed and the CPU @ stock voltage and frequency should be around 32 degrees, which is nothing like my 40 degrees...
Check out the graph here |

Let's see how Scythe will comment on this.
