Hi there,
I own both an ASUS Crosshair II Formula motherboard and the Scythe Mugen. The problem I'm having (and please forgive me if this is one hell of a stupid something) is that I'm not satisfied with how the cooler is installed on my board. Click for picture If you look at the picture of the board you'll see that there's only one way of installing the Mugen. When I do that however, it'll block my RAM slots. Aside from that, the airflow would suck because the fan(s) would have to be mounted on the small side in order to blow it out to the rear outtake fan I have. I assume more boards have this problem, since my previous Gigabyte M59SLI-S5 had exactly the same issue with both the Mugen and the Zalman 9700. Any tips on how to turn this baby 90 degrees? Thanks in advance! |

Hy,
there is no way to turn the Mugen. but you have no trouble with a horizontal Fan, and it will have a better performance as vertical fanmounting. sorry but thats a standard AM2 problem.

Thanks for your response. Though that wasn't the answer I was hoping for.
![]() You're saying that mounting a fan on the short side of the mugen blowing "the long way" is better then mounting it on the long side? Why is that, because it doesn't seem right to me. Mounting it that way however does create a problem since I'm using these sticks of RAM. If I also have to mount a fan on that side (since blowing beats sucking, when talking about fans anyway...) it blocks at least the first two RAM slots, not making me able to use dual channel. So, problems problems problems... Perhaps there's an easy alternative custom way of mount this cooler the way I want? |

3C improvement! Even though you've solved your problem by now, maybe someone else has the same problem today. The linked thread also mentions which fans should be intake and which outtake. This may not be the forum for such a question but I thought (without reading elsewhere) that it is logical to have more fans as intake, and only one or two that are outtake (rear, if suitable) or passive (top, since heat rises)... and that the scarcity of cool air as well as reasonable air flow were the major issues. Still learning from scratch, so can someone tell me that I'm not unreasonable here? Then there's the dust problem reduction using positive case pressure, meaning more intake fans...
