Post Replacing Ninja Rev. B with Mugen

Hello folks!

Probably interesting for those who are planning to optimize their temps a bit more:

My Ninja Rev. B was replaced by Mugen. Fans on both coolers were/are running with 800 rpm (Slip Stream).

Ninja Rev. B was mounted with TR Bolt Thru Kit 775 and Mugen is mounted with Scythe Retention Kit.

These are the results:
Ninja on E6700@1,152V @ 3 Ghz: Idle 33 / Intel TAT Max Load 60
Mugen on E6700@1,152V @ 3Ghz: Idle 30 / Intel TAT Max Load 52
Mugen on E6700@1,212V @ 3,2Ghz: Idle 32 / Intel TAT Max Load 57

So it's definitely an improvement. Users looking for real silence will and should still stick with Ninja but in my case Mugen really fits.

Bye Oli

Hi Oli,

Glad you made the improvement, but at low RPM Ninja gets the upper hand. If you lower speed than Ninja will get better than Mugen soon. I think you tested it as well. For higher spinning fans, Mugen will dominate for sure.

Thanks for your report =)

Lower than 700/800 rpm would work in my setup but with full load and in summer temps would get critical. With 800 rpm everything should stay within acceptable parameters even under worse circumstances.

With Ninja i could have clocked down the CPU to 2,66 Ghz @ less than 1,1 Volt (tested yesterday) which would have meant much lower temps while 500 rpm would have been sufficent.

I'll see which effect the next changes will have (TR-11 on my GTS and probably E8500). As long as the E6700 runs at above 3 Ghz this setup performs best. I believe the E8500 (which can be unvervolted very easily and in a wide range) would stay cooler than the E6700 even at more than 3,2 Ghz (e.g. 9,5 x FSB400).

Oli,

500-800rpm should be a good range, something you can really work with w/o being disturbed.
As for the new CPU, don't waste the money and buy E8400. If you plan to overclock, buy the E8400, because it has the potential for 4ghz stable (even higher) and because of 0,5 higher Multiplier, it is not worth the money...at least what I think. Never tested TR-11, you can report how you liked it. We will finally launch our VGA cooler soon, can't wait ^^

I hope your GPU cooler will work with 8800 GTS (G80) not only G92. There are some coolers available for G80 but something different would be nice.

TR-11 would only be a very small change improving load temps by some degrees without losing warranty - but as I noticed that the backside of Geforce is developing some heat which goes right up to the CPU I began thinking of backside cooling. Still checking if this will somehow fit between rear fan and Mugen...

I'll think about the E8400 - 4 Ghz isn't planned as I'm afraid this will raise overall system temps too much.

I also want to test reducing all fans to 600-650 rpm while adding push/pull setup to the Mugen.

Moin Oli

Well, our VGA Cooler was tested with 8800GTX and 8800GT(s) G92, basically it should work with all models in general, even R600 or like old school Geforce 5900.
Here is a list that we tested in general.

ATi X1600 series
ATi X1300 series
ATi Radeon 9*** series (except 9550/9600)
ATi Radeon X*** series
nVIDIA GeForce 6600 series (except 6600 AGP series)
ATi HD 3650 series
ATi HD 2600 series
ATi X1650 series
ATi X1600 series
nVIDIA GeForce 8600 series
nVIDIA GeForce 8500 series
nVIDIA GeForce 7600 series
nVIDIA GeForce 7300 series
nVIDIA GeForce 6600 series (except 6600 AGP series)
nVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 series
ATi HD 3870
ATi HD 3850
ATi HD 2900 XT
ATi X1950 series
ATi X1900 series
ATi X1800 series
nVIDIA GeForce 9600
nVIDIA GeForce 8800GT (G92)
nVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS (G92)
nVIDIA GeForce 7900 series
nVIDIA GeForce 7800 series
nVIDIA GeForce 7600 series
nVIDIA GeForce 6800 series
nVIDIA GeForce 8800 series (G80)

This is what we have inside the manual.

E8400 is really nice, I got one and it is really a lot cooler than the previews models, really recommended.
