Default temperature irregularities with Mugen 2 Rev B

Hi,

I purchased and installed the Mugen 2 Rev B and installed it on my computer

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M55S-S3 v2
Computer Case: NZXT Apollo
Graphic Card: Radeon HD4870x2 (Big Card, lots of heat)

Anyway, after I installed the Mugen the CPU start up around 40 degrees Celsius in oppose to the 44 it was before but every few minute it jumps up, sometime to 44, other cases 46 and even 51 or 55 at times, I'm not doing anything special or straining when it happens, just browsing the Internet.

The maximum working temperature for my CPU according to AMD are 55-63 Celsius, under OCCT stress test it went all the way up to 80 degrees and stabling at around 80 Celsius, and that only for a 15 minutes stress test.

Any ideas about that?

My graphic card by the way is idle at between 76-80 Celsius and under stress tests it stabilized around 94.

Edit

OK, It's getting worse, after a few more minutes of working the temperature got to 70, and now windows won't start anymore and my computer freeze durring startup, I tried attaching the mugen 2 fan the other way around, at first it seemed to help but that was before the computer began to freeze.

Now I'm thinking that maybe I messed up iwith the thermal grease but god that's going to br a huge headache to disassemble everything again to re-apply thermal grease, if it won't help than I am at a co plete lose here.

1. Basically: Jumping temps are perfectly normal - Windows is always working/swapping etc. - just set to polling interval a bit higher and the jumping will stabilize. But this would be nothing to be alarmed about because it's standard.

2. What you should be concerned about are the max and idle temps - although idle temps aren't that important at all. But they give a good direction.

It looks as if
a) your cooler is faulty (very very rare)
b) something went completely wrong with your installation (thermal grease, mounting of cooler in general etc.)
c) Your overall system airflow is a catastrophe.

You should start checking b) and c), especially b) by re-applying cooler and reducing the amount of thermal grease used.

Check if you removed the protective film unterneath the cooler base plate. Also check the fan speed.

Thank you for the reply, as it turned out I got my father to help me disassemble and re-install the mugen 2 the 3rd time and this time it is ok, I am still unsure as to what was the problem, one or more of 3 options:

A) Not enough or badly applied thermal grease
B) there was some sor of sticker on the CPU, it was there since I purchased it but my father said it could be causing problems so I removed it.
C) I might have not screwed the black plate screws good enough, the 3rd time my father helped I think it was screwed better.

Anyway, after the previous message I wrote here I did some more testing and the idle temp was around 60 which is near the max for that cpu, now, after the 3rd time installing the mugen 2 it is idle around 40 and even under OCCT CPU stress tests it won't go over 70 which is just slight higher than the official maximum for my CPU, which is OK I think since hardware companies usualy give max temperatures lower than the real max teh hardware can work at, to be on the safe side, beside, almost nothing press the cpu to over 90% constant usage like the stress test, I'm still monitoring the temperatures though for a few more days to see that is stays fine.

anyway, here's the current temperatures and fan speed according to everest desktop gadget:

Computer was just started about 20 minutes ago.

This sounds normal, now. The sticker you mentioned was the cause I think. Direct contact between cooler base plate and CPU heatspreader is essential (with only the thermal grease between these two layers).

Normally the thermal grease needs some hours to use its full potential so temps may drop 1-5 degrees due to that process.

OK, good to know, anyway, after all the trouble, I can eventually say that it looks good and for now I'm happy with my new Mugen 2 cooler, as I said though, I'll monitor it closely for a few days to see that it remains stable.
