Hey guys,
I recently received my Mugen-2 and, man, is this thing humongous! I have some questions regarding the cooling on the heatsink itself and would like to have some help to figure out if my temperatures are normal and whatnot. My build: Intel Core i7-920 d0 processor(3.36 Ghz) 2x2 GB of G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 (9-9-9-24 @ 1.5V) Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard Antec True Power Trio 550W PSU I used Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste on the CPU. I also have Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Paste that wasn't used. ![]() This is the processor temps while it is idle. ![]() This is during full load. It was running hotter before and I had to reseat the heatsink because I made the mistake of screwing on the socket brackets incorrectly and loosely. However, I redid it and the temps improved quite a bit, but as you can see, it is still a bit high. I did the line method for putting on thermal paste for Artic Silver 5. However, I read that AS5 needed about 200 hrs to cure properly before I start seeing better temperatures, while MX-2 doesn't need to cure at all. Perhaps, I should change out the thermal paste or something. I was wondering if my temps are about what you would expect out of this cooler at this speed. Also, I was wondering how I should go about to overclocking this to 4.0 Ghz while maintaining decent temperatures. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Don't mean to bump this for my first post but I was very curious as to the direction you mounted the cooler, and if you mounted it vertically, with the fan on the bottom end, is the 2nd PCIx1 slot on the motherboard blocked from being used? I need a nice and new cooler and was thinking about this one.
