Default Socket 775 Installation

Hey everyone,

I have just put together a new(ish) computer that is running a Q6600 on an Asus P5K-E motherboard and have a Mugen 2 CPU cooler. I put it all together last night but I was just wondering if I have mounted it correctly.

I mounted the correct mounting brackets for the Socket 775 to the Heatsink. With the motherboard out I put the backplate on and used the 4 screws through the back of the motherboard into the heatsink and tightened it up. I'm just wondering if I was supposed to use any of the washers or the spacers in the installation? Me and a friend weren't 100% sure so thought I would ask.

Also, running at stock speed using prime 95 to load the cores to 100% for a while the temperature got to 60 Degrees Celcius, does this sound about right?

Thanks.

60°C sounds ok. Not perfect but as we do not know anything about the rest of your airflow it would only be speculation.

If you plan to use the Q6600@stock you can undervolt the CPU and gain some degrees.

That temp was running without any other fans in the case apart from the power supply so considering I think that is ok, but I am about to order another couple to help with airflow!

I am going to reseat the cooler and add another 2 or 3 fans to the case and get it to run cooler and probably run it around 3ghz, so I will leave the voltages alone.

Huhu,

with some fans in case and good kable management you will get better temps.
A good airflow in case is every time the coverage for lower temperatures .
