Default Cannot control my Mugen 2 fan speed?

Hi there!

I recently bought a new PC and I bought an Scythe Mugen 2 since I always have problems with CPU temperatures, but this time it's the noise that really annoys me. I have an gigabyte EX58-UD4 (i think its called like that..) and I have fan control enabled in BIOS. The thing is, my CPU fan starts to run at 1300 RPM right away and I tried to change it with Easy Tune 6 without any luck (windows 7 RC if that matters..) Does anyone know what to do to solve this? My CPU temps are fine so it shouldn't run this fast (around 33 degrees in idle on a Core i7 920 2.66 ghz) I tried to change the Fan mode as well between voltage and PWM but it didn't make any difference.

Thanks in advance!

Erik

hi,

change the fan mode to PWM and then set the profile "silent", normally that should work fine.

Thanks for the reply!

Actually it was my Cooler Master dominator 690 side fan that was making the annoying sound, but it would still be nice to adjust the fan. Where is this profile setting located? I only got the fan control mode and the voltage/pwm setting. Is it in BIOS or an external program?

Thanks!

Erik

so there are not Problems with Mugen 2 anymore?

Not all fan connector are controllable, so the easiest think is to use a 4pin Molex and convert this connector to 5 or 7 V.

But you should check at wish fan header you use the fan and maybe change the header. its all in your bios, maybe you can make a picture of your bios screen in the health section.

Can you tell me where I need to set the profile to 'silent'?

I found the PWM option already, but it doesn't make any difference to the 'auto' setting. Both have ~1400 rpm speeds constantly, no matter what I do.

I took a pic from my health screen inside my bios:

(Side question: This was the first time I mounted a cpu cooler myself, I think the temps look ok, or don't they?)

I did some research and apparently my bios version doesnt support it (Gigabyte EX58 UD5, F7 bios). Newer beta versions are available where it's fixed according to some forums, fortunately
