Question Low Profile HSF for i7 920 (4GHZ oc'd)

Currently I have an i7 920 (rev D0) overclocked to 4.0GHz but my temps are extremely high when running prime95.

For my setup, I'm using an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 with 1.21V for my Vcore and Turbo Mode disabled. Unfortunately my case (Antec Skeleton) limits me to HTPC sized HSFs with a max height of 112mm and can't use TRUE or Noctua HSFs. I currently use an Enzotech Extreme-X and IC Diamond 7 TIM but temps will reach 100C on full prime95 load until Speedstep kicks in to throttle things down. Idle temps aren't an issue (38-40C) and I'm more concerned about full load temps.

Currently I'm thinking of getting either the Zipang 2 or the Big Shuriken but I'm not sure if these come close to being rated for 4GHz i7 use or more specifically 195-212W heat load (calculation taken here using a range between 1.20-1.25V Vcore: eXtreme Outer Vision Tools). I'd be happy if my full load temps don't go over 85-90C with a low profile HSF and I also won't be planning on doing any overclocking past 4GHz anyways.

Any thoughts/suggestions on these products (Zipang 2 or Big Shuriken)?

Hi,

what i'm thinking about is to get a zipang 2 + a kaze maru 1900, and i think this the best for you. high fits and performance should be better. We only test our coolers up to 140W read power and reach 12-13°C dT with such a setup. so maybe you should try this out.

Question

Thanks for the suggestion Chris. One last question about this cooler. Is there a difference in cooling performance by installing this cooler horizontally (in HTPC cases) or vertically (in tower cases)?

in a HTPC Case the orientation of the cooler doesn't matters, in standard case heatpipes should orientated horizontal or vertical with the pipe ends to the top.
