Are big Shuriken compatible with corei3 on 1156 socket (Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3, H55, Socket-1156)?
I see different info - it seems compatible with the socket, yet not the Corei3 (only core i5/i7 is mentioned). Is that the case? Bliddal Conclusion. Big shuriken is installed, and it "cost" the PCI-e slot on that particular motherboard. RAM is not an issue (other than the innermost slot must be filled up before the cooler is on. And oh my, for a sweet "sound" now. Amazing that the stock coolers are so lousy (snoise wise) Last edited by bliddal; 12-03-2010 at 06:38 PM. |

Hi,
the Big Shuriken should be able to cool a Core I3(if not overclocked), but your motherboard could be a problem. I think the Big Shuriken would block the PCIe slot and at least one of the RAM slots(if you don't use higher built RAM like Corsair Dominator, the RAM slot is usable but if you want to replace the RAM you'll have to take of the cooler first.).

Thank you.
As the RAM is already in, I will go get my tape measurer --will keep you posted in case other people use a mITX card with a HTPC cabinet that have room for only 70mm of cpu cooling. or, with thoughts on the itx motherboard .. order a mATX card instead--------- bliddal Ah. Or use Shuriken rather than Big Shuriken. When looking at measurements of (either) scythe cooler - does that include the fan? So 58 mm high is with 12mm high fan included. If not included it would be 70 mm, not 58. Last edited by bliddal; 09-20-2010 at 02:00 PM. Reason: new idea |

I personally wouldn't recommend the small Shuriken for i3 unless you want to clock down beneath stock clock. The Big Shuri handles a i3-540@stock with reasonable rpm values (much better than Boxed fan) but the smaller fan and smaller body of the simple Shuriken will have much work to do which will result in higher temps and more noise.
