Default Big Shuriken's Fan

Hello, i just bought a big shuriken to fit inside a sg04. The problem is i need to reverse the fan so it can extract air and blow it through the 120mm fan of my power supply instead of blowing through the radiator. How do i do that? Will the performance drop?

Performance will drop. Those coolers are designed for fans blowing through them. Top-flow coolers additionally can cool the components on your board around the socket. This effect will also be gone once you change freom blowing to sucking. How dramatic this drop will be is significantly dependent on the overall airflow in your chassis and your CPU.

Technically you just turn the fan around 180° (you flip it). Look at the arrows on the fan's frame which show you the airflow direction.

Thank you for your reply. It seems I didn't clearly state my problem. It's the fan clips, I don't know how to unclip the fan from the radiaor. Also, if I ever have to remove the heathsink from th mobo, will I have to apply new thermal paste? It's been 24h since I've applied it.

Yes, if you remove the cooler you should re-apply the thermal grease.

If you cannot remove the fan clips by hand you should just use a tool for it. Take a look at the mechanism - there's no "magic" so if you use a pair of pliers and some force you can free the fan and flip it. The clips are having a tight fit so you'll most likely need a tool for re-applying them.

Please leave a message when you're done and report about the change of temps.

Will do, I'll be able to tell this weekend. Still, had 40°c idle on my e6400 w/o oc, which is 10°c better than the stock cooler without the noise and with extra cooling for the nb + mosfets of my jr p45-t2rs, the shuriken wasn't even on full.

hey, managed to reverse the fan without removing the heathsink from the mb, which was really painful but, with the fan now reversed and a slipstream 120 H on my powersupply, the temp dropped! to 30°c! which makes something like 8°c /_\t

Also regarding the fan.

I see that it is a PWM version of the slipstream slim series. Are there any future plans to make PWM versions of the regular and/or slim slipstream fans available separately other than bundled with a heat-sink?

I certainly would be interested. I know there are the Kama Flex series that are PWM already however the slipstreams more more air at a given dBA which is why I am asking.

Thanks,
Gavin

I've also got a sg04 and am thinking about buying the big shuriken although I've got 4 problems-questions about it:
1 and most important) I can't find it in Greece!!
2) I don't know if my motherboard is compatible with it (Gigabyte UD2)
3) I don't know if it's better than the stock i7-860 cooler!
4) This thread answered the last question about reversing the fan.. If the OP is still here.. does a bigger fan fit in sg04 with the big shuriken? Thinking of buying a nexus 120mm and reversing it on top of the shuriken. Do you think it will work?
