Default cpu fan does not spin up on asus rampage 2 gene

i just recently built up my new i7 machine and the hsf is basically brand spanking new and i love it, great cooling when i got the fan to work but it doesnt work at all after i noticed i was idling at 40c with all other fans on high speed.

i am using an asus motherboard (asus rampage 2 gene) and i've heard of the Q-fan control issues but im even forcing to spin up 100% and it still doesnt spin up, i can see it try to pulse up and it doesnt go anywhere. i can get it to spin for a little while if i were to press in the center hub of the fan so it seems like its defective out of the box? also right out of the box i only had 1 fan clip instead of 2, i looked all over the place to make sure it didnt accidentally fall off and then i tried to remove the other one to see how tightly it was on and it was on there pretty firmly so i think it came without both clips. anyway i would like to keep the heatsink and fan. i would hope to just get a fan replacement if that was possible.

i want a good performing heatsink and i really need the low profile since its in a silverstone sg03 case and has very little clearance (with scythe shuriken i have about 3cm clearance from the power supply.

love the product, i thought the fan thing was a mobo issue with not enough power. i tested to make sure it wasnt a power issue by hooking up a direct line to the power supply using a 4pin molex and it still did the same thing.

pic of the parts that went into the build.

hi,

do you already try to completely shot off the fan controller of your board?

Otherwise i only can suggest to you to send the cooler back to the shop where you bought it and get a now one.

Chris
