Default Compatibility list

Just to inform you.

Samurai Z is not compatible with a Biostar TA690G AM2 mainboard, because of the Biostar retention module. So keep that in mind and get a standart retention module if you want to run this combination.

Hi giz,

Thanks for your inquiry and greetings from Scythe!

Could you explain why Samurai Z is not fitting? All the AM2 retentions should be the same. I've checked the product image and it looks OK. Please provide us more details on this issue.

Greetings,
Andy

Hi,

This is the first time I see, that there is such a problem with a retention. Until now ALL the AM2 Modules were fine. I guess that BIOSTAR has tried their own modified retention....Can you obtain a different AM2 retention module??

Greetings,
Andy

Hi,

Glad that the problem is solved. Do you wish that the Mobo will be set on the incompatible list? Im not sure how new this model is but I guess it would be useful to inform users, becasue all our Coolers using the VTMS-Clip are not compatible to that special retention module.

Greetings,
Andy

Sure, why not. The Biostar TA690G AM2 is a pretty rare Board here in Germany, dunno how about in other euro countries. But its a very nice and excellent board, somehow an insider, so i guess it would help other ppl. if you put it on the official list.

Hey,

I just updated the list. I needed to add the note that it won't fit because of the AM2 retention, if anyone replace it, it will work. Thanks for the help.

Default PC-Chips A33G

I recently had a similar problem with a PC-Chips A33G (apparently the older non ROHS version) motherboard. The plastic nubs on the outside of the clip would not allow the heatsink to go down all the way. For good or bad, my solution was to remove the retention clip and cut the offending outer plastic nubs off with a pair of snips. Also, the north bridge heat sink is too close to allow the bottom clip to be closed easily.

You may want to add this motherboard to the incompatible list as well. It will fit, but I would not expect somebody to mess with the NB heat sink or the retention clip.

Hi arloth,

Thanks for the info. I have set an update. I think the new AM2 clips that we will have on the market early 2008, should be compatible. We reachted already on this problem and modified the clips. Have fun with your Scythe Cooler.
