Thumbs down Usb Double footswitch software KO

Hello,

Excuse me for my poor english (i'm french actually)

A similar post is in the german forum.

The software available on your ftp site is not working for me (and not for this german person).

My PC is under Windows Vista SP2 (32 b). The footswitch works fine and my computer "sees" it . I can press either right or left foot and it simulates "1" or "2" so no problem. But when i use your software (2 foot version), i can not do anything : "Usb HIDKB Not connected !"

So i can not change key bindings ...

I've tried different solutions. My drivers are updated, i've launched it with admin privileges but it still fails (immediate message).

Do you have any idea ?

PS : i'm trying your soft because i didn't received any cd (nor manual) in my footswitch box

I've just checked something : my footswitch is seen as "composite usb device". Don't know if it can help ? Maybe the cd is containing specific drivers that i don't have ? If so, can you add them on your ftp site ?

Thx

This is probably the root of the problem I'd say. But I can only guess as I am not Scythe staff or developer.

The Scythe software probably expects the footswitch to be recognized as USB HID device (keyboard) by Windows. When the software starts and doesn't find the USB HID keyboard it shows the mentioned error message.

I'd guess that something is wrong with your Plug & Play recognition for Human Interface Devices (which happens quite commonly). Just try the following - this is my best guess:
Go to control panel > device manager > select the foot switch ("composite device") > right mouse button > "Properties" > go to the "Driver" tab > select update driver > "Install from a list or a specific location - advanced" > "Browse my computer for driver software" > select C:\Windows\Inf as source for the driver search

If that works and the composite device is correctly replaced by a HID device it should be listed in the "Human Interface Devices" branch of the device manager and should show neither a yellow exclamation mark nor any other symbol (red cross etc.).

Ok i've juste made a check and all of this is fine to me

It is also seen as "HID-compliant device", HID mouse and PIH keyboard (HID drivers)

My drivers are updated. Once again, windows sees it, buttons work. Just scythe software that fails without explicit log. Windows does not fail.

If no other solution, i'll get back the product to have a complete box.

Thank you

I've just found the solution !

My footswitch is seen as PIH keyboard (twice) -> update the driver and there's a choice between PIH and HID human interface (thx for the idea)

Choose HID and now the soft is OK ! -> change the bindings

Problem : the footswitch fails -> reupdate the driver to get PIH keyboard twice.

The footswitch is OK with the new bindings.

A i understand things, there is a need to update drivers so the soft can "see" the footswitch. Then you must reupdate to make the footswitch work as a keyboard. It seems quite strange to me but it works

-> You can tell the german person if it can help (see international forum)

Thank you

I am getting the same error unfortunately - Usb HIDKB Not connected!

I have had a look through device manager and everything seems to be OK. If I open notepad and use the pedals they type 1 2 3 according to the pedals.

Any ideas?

Here is a pic of what the Scythe has installed:

Yeah, select the line "HID Keyboard Device" and try to update the driver (in properties in your screenshot i guess)

You should have a choice between this driver and another one like "HID human interface". Choose this one. Then you will be able to change your bindings.

When finished, re-update your drivers choosing "HID Keyboard device"

It worked for me

Cool, thanks Geki. I tried that and it works. The problem is it is a MAJOR PAIN IN THE ARSE to change drivers when you want to change keys between games!

I don't think the manufacturers/developers/code monkeys imagined it to work this way.

Other than that the foot pedals are pretty cool. In Mass Effect 2 they currently activate buttons 1, 2 and 3 which correspond to using powers. Quite handy in the middle of combat.

After going back and forth with Scythe Support a few times I finally got this response:
"I'm sorry but there won't be an update in the next time."

So they don't plan on fixing this issue. I will be returning the product and recommend no one else to buy one as they don't work as advertised!
