Default motherboard compatibility?

Hi, i have the scythe ninja plus, rev.b. I'm looking to buy a board compatible with it. i've seen the motherboard compatibility thread in Shinigami's signature, but the motherboard i'm looking at at the moment isn't listed, either positive or negative.

i'm looking to use an MSI P35 neo2-FR.

if confirmed compatibility isnt possible, is it at least possible to get an educated guess?

Hi Fayd,

welcome and thank you for your interest and trust in Scythe!

The MSI P35 neo2-FR Motherboard was not tested yet. I was checking a couple images on the web to see if there are any problems. The distance from socket to coolers and their height seems to be not a problem. I can not see any problems with that Motherboard. You might want to mount the Ninja first and the fix the motherboard inside the case. It would be great if you could confiorm your results if you buy and use Ninja PLUS.

Cheers,
Andy

Hi joludoru,

Thanks for registering and interest in Scythe.

The K8N Neo4 Platinum is not compatible to Ninja PLUS, unless you use a Scythe Socket 478 Retention Module. The Problem is caused by the too close capacitors, which are too tall and therfor heatpipe hits them. If you turn the Ninja PLUS by 90° you can mount it based on my knowledge.

Greetings,
Andy

I'd like to check on two boards for the Ninja Plus...

1) Asus A8N-E - I'm guessing this is OK, as the SLI version works fine

2) GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 - Not sure about this one.

Thanks.

Hi Andy, I'm confirming that the Scythe Ninja Plus, Rev. B DOES in fact work with the MSI p35 Neo2-FR.

But the pushpin installation is a NIGHTMARE PLEASE, next rev, just use a bolt-through mechanism.

i currently have a couple nylon zipties daisy-chained together, wrapped through the upper fins of the ninja and around the case's stability bracket that's just above it. it seems to be supporting it fairly well, and my temps improved by a few degrees after doing that. holding steady at 32 degrees C, with a 27 C ambient.

That is great news as I am planning on using the same combination. What CPU are using? Are you using the stock fan that came with it or are you using a different one?

Also, anyone know if you could you use the following item:

Scythe Universal retetion Kit

to bolt it through the motherboard?

Thanks!

currently i'm using the stock fan that came with the scythe... but eventually i intend to use a yate loon low speed 120mm fan.

it just seems like a wasted effort at this point in time, because the front 2 fans on my computer are REALLY loud. i'm gonna be buying an inline resistor this weekend, soldering it in place, and listening to the quietness that was supposed to happen in this rig. (antec solo)

either today or tomorrow, 10 4packs of sillicone fan mounts will arrive at my doorstep... and this weekend the silencing will commence

EDIT: oh, i'm using an E4400 at stock speed right now. i'm cheap :P but, to my knowledge, every core2duo cpu has pretty much the same thermal requirements... only the quadcores differ. so i shouldnt have any troubles overclocking.

I'm planning on using a Q6600 with this setup. Any thoughts or experience with the Scythe Universal Mounting Kit(SCURK1) or do you think the push pins will be good enough?

pushpins *should* be enough, but do yourself a favor and get the bolt-through kit. it's a much better idea. The pushpins are a fairly weak mounting system.

i'm gonna be taking my sys apart in the not too distant future, and i'll probably use a bolt-mounting kit in putting it back together. either the SCURK01, or one from thermalright that looks like it'd work just as well. (uses the pushpin's plate, but incorporates a backplate and a spring-loaded bolt setup)

also, i'd recommend you do the same thing as me, and try to suspend some of the weight of the ninja. massive downward pressure on the processor core isnt so necessary for heat transfer, but even pressure is. besides, doing this will cure some of the ninja's propensity for bending the motherboard, or slipping out of the pinholes, or worse. worst case scenario, it keeps a .5 kilo heatsink from smacking into your video card at full force.
