Default NINJA Compatible with ABIT AB9 PRO?

Hi, I'm curious if the Ninja is compatible with the AB9 PRO and if so, will it function well in a FANLESS environment attached to a E6700

I plan to use a Coolermaster Centurion 590 case and add two 120MM fans to the case itself.
There would be a total of 3 120MM case fans and the 120MM power supply fan. (I'll block off the other fan mounts unless needed).

I figure with the fans I've selected there would be at least 90 CFM through the case itself.

According to the product review on newegg
There are complaints regarding compatibility with a few motherboards.

I noticed there is a large heatsink on the AB9 PRO near the back of the board.

Here is the text. Please advise on compatibility and effectiveness of FANLESS (on the CPU itself. I do NOT plan on overclocking. It's just a fileserver with a ton of disks)

Here's the text from the review.

Pros: One of the best passive CPU heatsinks on the market (as long as it fits your board). I would have given it 5 stars if not for the problem below.

Cons: If you have an Asus P5B Deluxe, Gigabyte DS*, or an Abit AB9 board, you will be unable to properly seat the heatsink on the processor. This is due to the capacitors on the periphery of the CPU getting in the way. For the brave, physical modification of the heatsink will be necessary to allow a proper installation (e.g., hacksaw).

Other Thoughts: If you have one of the boards listed above, you will be better off with an Asus Silent Square heatsink. Or use the stock Intel heatsink until Scythe realeses a "Revision C" that addresses the problem.

According to the compatibility list Ninja should be compatible with Abit AB9 Pro. Either Scythe tested it or someone of the users reported compatibility.

Ninja PLUS Rev. B Compatibility List

The capacitors can be a problem - it definitely depends on their height. Also the quite high chipset cooler between ATX IO shield and CPU socket could be a problem. Exact height would be necessary to make further suggestions.

I see big problems when installing the Ninja with Retention Kit but with Pushpins it should work if the mentioned components aren't too high.

Fanless with E6700 is possible if you ensure a very (!) good airflow in your case. Unervolting@2,66 Ghz is no problem with this CPU and a very cheap method to decrease temps. You should be able to use less than 1,16V for a stable E6700. My E6700 runs with 1,19V @ 3Ghz.

But as I can see with 4 120mm fans the system is far from "passive" so you could also connect a fan directly to Ninja.

I am running a rather "hot" system (E6700@3,2 & Geforce 8800 GTS (G80)) with a total of 2 fans @ 800 plus temp regulated power supply fan. If you do not plan to overclock as you mentioned it could be possible to run your system with 1 fan for the Ninja and the PSU fan. Depending on the case layout.

Bye Oli

Thanks.
I may end up using a conroe-L 2ghz just to keep everything as power lite as possible.
Thank you for your time.
