Default Heatsink tape

Hello Scythe forum,

I was wondering: Are there any shops that sell tape to re-use the Musashi heatsinks, so I don't have to buy a new set of heatsinks?

Kind regards,
Tamashii

Hi there,

Do you speak about the small heatsinks or the Musashi itself? If it is the small heatsinks, then it is not possible, we do not offer anything like that. You might find 2-component glue but this is something you could do if you like, yet don't forget the risk that you ripp-off your memory chips etc. that way. =)

Cheers,
Andy

Default Thermal adhesive tape

Hi,
Sorry for "re-opening" a 1 year old subject but I have quite a similar question.

I have a Scythe Musashi over an ATI Radeon 4850 (first generation).
I also have some few problems with the heatsinks since they tend to run away by themselves. I also suspect the bad sticking to cause overheating of some chips (the 8 ones around the GPU) , making my system somewhat unstable in games.

At the moment the best (less worst) solution i found is to clean up the heatsinks and to put some regular thermal compound on them. The "suction effect" seems to be temporary enough to keep the heat-sinks in place, but I fear them to run away with the time.

I don't like that much the idea on using thermal glue, as I am afraid of the "permanent" sticking it involve.

I found this product which is thermal adhesive tape: Akasa AK-TT12-80.
However, in the specification they mention a thermal conductivity of "0.9 W/m.°C". I have absolutely no idea about what does that mean, but this is roughly 3 times less than the Scythe ' "Thermal Elixer" Thermal Grease ' which is said to have a conductivity of "2.89 W/ (m·K)".

So here are the questions:
- Is this Akasa tape still conductive enough for the heatsink ?
- Is there any obvious reason why I shouldn't use that tape to "improve" the Scythe's heatsinks ?
