Hello everyone,
I am having a problem with my Mugen for a while now. The temps are too high and even my stock Intel cooler performs better then my Mugen does. On a other Dutch forum I started this topic aswell, and the conclusion they made was too high temps aswell. Especially since the voltage is only at 1.3 volt. What I tried: - Refitted the Mugen with stock Scythe thermal paste, sometimes very little paste, sometimes a bit more. No change in temps. - Refitted the Mugen and turned it 90 degrees. When the Mugen is placed vertical I got way better temps in the beginning. Now that's gone too. - Added an extra fan, no change in temps. - Bought the Scythe Retention Kit. No change in temps. (Better fit though) - Used a tie-rip for better fit, temps decreased with about 2c. The Mugen does feel a bit warm, but not thát warm. So basicly, I tried ev-ery-thing to change the temps... I am very interested in your opinions. ![]() |

Hi and welcome Dominatu!
That sounds like an interesting case to solve. Let's start! First of all, it would be great to have some specs of your System along with a picture, to see some possible bottle-necks or issies. Your charts are a bit confusing and do not say which cooler is what, I see temps but which cooler is it and where are the second coolers temps? Did you probably modify something on this cooler? Probably the heatpipe covers? The requested infos should help a lot to solve the problem ![]()

Hello Shinigami and thank you for your reply,
I am sorry for the confusing charts, they where copied from my Coretemp log. I'll give u some screenshots instead: Q6600 idle | 2.4Ghz | Scythe Mugen http://i26.tinypic.com/2uiw3d0.jpg Q6600 stressed | 2.4Ghz | Scythe Mugen http://i30.tinypic.com/a1u9eq.jpg The temps with my Intel stock cooler where about 34 idle and 55 on load @ stock clocks. My configuration: Stacker 832 C2Q Q6600 Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 4GB DDR2 PC6400 8800GTX 2x Raptor 74GB in raid 0 X-Fi XtremeGamer http://www.hardware.info/images/user...e/003162-2.jpg http://www.hardware.info/images/user...e/003162-3.jpg http://www.hardware.info/images/user...e/003162-6.jpg I haven't modified a single thing on the Mugen itself, except for the new mounting system (Retention Kit). I hope this is more clear and helpfull to you. |

Hello Dominatu,
sorry for the delayed response regarding your problem. Of course your temperatures are too high for the Mugen-Cooler. I have some solution-attemps for you... 1) Regarding the pictures of your system you provided, the airflow inside of your pc should be allright. What about your graphic-adapter? Is it getting hot and could it maybe influence the Mugen? 2) Your CPU seems to be allright, because you mention, that the Temps were better when using the stock-cooler. This really makes me think about, that the baseplate of the Mugen is not plane. Did you have a look about this? 3) What about the contact pressure of the Mugen? Does it stably mount the cooler onto your CPU? To test this, please use only a drop of thermal grease, put it in the middle of your CPU-heatsink, mount the cooler, unmount it and have a look, if it gets distributed over the whole heatsink. Hope we get some clues by testing this stuff first... Cheers, Stefan

Hello hiroshige,
Thank you for your response. 1) My graphics card is getting about 50c idle and 62c stressed. The heat from the card is not getting influed with the Mugen, since I have a fan rack that blows cold air to the card. 2) I did look at about this 2 days ago, the Mugen was indeed plane when I putted my Q6600 on it. There where no glitches or anything like that. 3) I did tried this too and the thermal paste distributed evenly over the whole heatsink. I hope this can help you. |

Hi Dominatu,
this issue is getting a bit strange. Actually, the Mugen of course has the power to cool down your Q6600 but it does not for any reasons. What is strange for me is, that the Mugen for itself does not even get warm. Do you have the opportunity to measure the Mugens temperature? Cheers, Stefan

Yeah Oli, that is exactly the reason why I was asking for the contact pressure, which seems to be okay...

Hello Oli,
I am not using the copper spacer, since this wasen't necessary when using the Retention Kit. I am using the washers, but haven't tried to remove those. Though, I had this temp problem aswell when using the pushpin system. I don't think I have the materials to measure my Mugen's temperature, but I'll look at the Mugens pressure once again. |
