hello,
sorry, there was no forum for the retention frame kit, so I ask here. I have this board, I have the cpu(s) and I have a original AMD fan, but: the board has NO retention frame! (there's only one backplate attached to it, no screws...) My questions: Is it true that I can get the old back plate off by using a hairdryer? Can I use your universal retention kit with my board? in the pictures it looks like you have 4 screws for attaching, but I only have 2 holes on each side of the socket for the backplate!? can anybody please help? thanks a lot! PS: answers in german are also welcome, if you know anything, please post it! |

Hi there.
I'll go ahead and reply in English, then more people can understand what the solution is like. The Universal Retnetion Kit has a backplate with 2 extra holes for socket 939 and 940. The black retention module is also included, so if the Tyan Mobo does not have it, you can either use the Universal Retention Kit backplate or the one attached. The hair-dryer should be a good help for detaching the backplate. Let me know if you have any further questions.

![]() I guess we're not talking about exactly the same thing, so I took a picture from my board to show what I mean: [img=http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/6237/img0912cg9.th.jpg] As you can see, there are 2 holes (light blue). The distance between them labeled with "A" is about 9 cm (sorry, but this is quite hard to be measured), now I have this 4 other things (red). I don't know what this is, it's definitely impossibel to make a hole at this place, because this would kill the board. maybe this 4 "dots" are there to glue the retention frame on the board? the distances are: in the direction of the "A" distance: ~7 cm, and orthogonal to it: ~5.5 cm. Does this fit with your retention frame? (yes, I tried the tyan support but they need even more time to answer this simple question) |

Hi there!
Well, we are actually talkinmg about the same thing. I don't think that you need to contact Tyan, I'll help you ![]() The 4 holes (marked red) are basically to get a more stable fit of the retention module. Please don't even think about making any holes on PCBs!! The blue marked 2 holes should be around 90mm away from each other, that's for the standard socket 939 and 940 mounting. Everything is fine here. So in the end, you can use our retention module that comes with the Universal Retention Kit, which includes the backplate and the screws. Check the illustration for a better understanding on how to use it. ![]() ![]() I hope this info could help you =D

I guess I was a bit misdirected by the picture that shows all things included in the package, the backplate is shown lying (is that actually the right word? [your picture isn't telling any lies ]) there like an "X" so i thought that other mainboards have 4 holes and I have to turn your backplate by 45° to fit with my board (now I know that i have to do t AND that the plate still fits after turning)...that's the first time I have to install the CPU, so I don't want to make anything wrong and as I have a kinda special board, I wasn't sure about this at all.Thank you for your help, the pictures are great, too. PS/btw:I had another question I asked at the tyan support center (they have a whole single support system) after 4 days my question was still not answered and they only changed its status to "in progress" ![]() now (after another 5 days) they deleted my request. I'm so glad to have my question answered in another way. The cool thing is they call their help "instant" oh dear... bye for now |

Hi there,
sorry for my late respond. I am out of the office the whole week and finally found some time and internet connection to reply to you =) Well, seems like you are fine with the whole mounting now, right? I hope I understood you right. Is there any other question you have about the whole thing? I am not from tyan, but I can try to help ![]() Tyan has to fix their support by them. To not care about the customer's problems is a problem, it can not be accepted. This is how I feel at least. Cheers, Andy
