I have built a new system, you can find the configuration here: Weyland.be Specs
I will upload new pics when I get home later today, here are some other pics from during the built: i7 The system is running at stock speeds now (or should I say "for now") The Mugen is correctly installed, I followed the manual without any problems. But during the installation I did notice that it is very difficult to tightly fit the mugen onto the other part at the back of the motherboard. The screws are very small, and due to the sheer size of the Mugen it is very difficult to handle. But I do believe it is correctly installed because I can not "move" the mugen it is rocksolid in place , I can lift the entire motherboard by lifting the mugen. I used Arctic Silver as thermal paste between the CPU and Mugen. Now I'm not entirely happy about the temperature of the i7 940, these seem to be a bit too high, both in idle as in stressed. I have attached 2 screenshots of some temperaturemonitoring tools, one while idle, and one while being stressed (strestest of Real Temp) Are these temps normal for a stock i7 940? ![]() ![]() |

Hello selder,
thanks a lot for your information and the temperature-measurements. So why do you think, that the temperatures are too high? Stressed, they are below 60°C @Core which is quite okay, isn't it? Kind regards, Stefan - Scythe EU Hamburg

Currently the system is built into my case, a Lian-Li PC-v1010a.
This case has a 120mm exhaust fan right next to the CPU cooler and an internal airflow 120mm fan at the other side of the CPU cooler, taking care of airflow to the RAM memory primarily, but also to the CPU cooler. The only way I could install the fan of the Scythe CPU cooler is at the bottom of the CPU cooler, it wouldn't fit at the right or left. Mmm ... I'm gonna take a picture of it, so I don't have a hard time explaining/writing it down ![]() But, there are a lot of fans, there are three 120mm fans who directly control airflow to and from the CPU cooler block ... shouldn't the temperatures be a little less high with these fans? I ran a SANDRA CPU benchmark too, and saw CPU Core temperatures of 70°C, I'll reproduce that benchmark and take some screenshots of it... |

It seems I have not as much spare time as I wished, haven't had the time to look into this issue yet
Tonight I have planned to dissasemble my PC and reinstall the Mugen, I will add spacers to the retention system and see how that goes.

Just for comparison:
When I've assembled a computer for a friend with the stock core i7 heatsink/fan it would idle at approx 45c and at load it would spike to 83c. core i7 920 asus p6t deluxe version 2 thermaltake speedo full tower I'd consider the OP's temps very good. I'm considering upgrading the heatsink to a mugen 2... was hoping for some comments about the clearance in this topic, but alas I need to keep looking. Last edited by Bob64; 03-28-2009 at 11:28 PM. |

Thanks for the site, while the pictures are good, I can't make out if the memory top touches the fan or not. Good to know that normal memory should fit in all slots.
