Default SCCSMG2-1156 still available?

Hi there,

I was wondering if the "SCCSMG2-1156" is still available somehow and if not, if the Universal Retention Kit (v3) is compatible with the Mugen 2 (Rev A) for Socket 1155?

In general though, is there any difference between the SCCSMG2-1156 and the SCURK-3000 when it comes to the Mugen 2?

Thanks.

There is a difference. The basic problem is that you need a clip with the correct hole distance for 1155/1156 on the cooler side! Those metal clips were part of SCCSMG2-1156.

They are NOT part of Ret Kit 3 - so this kit cannot replace SCCSMG2-1156 when it comes to basic socket compatibility of those older pre-1156 coolers.

The SCCSMG2-1156 is End of Life (EOL) and no longer sold in retail stores so you could only start a support request using the form on this website to ask the support whether you can buy the necessary clips directly from Scythe or whether they can send it to you for free.

As your Mugen 2 Rev A Intel clip already has holes for 775 AND 1366 one could also think about modifying the clip itself. The necessary hole for the 1155/1156 distance would be quite exactly between the two holes which already exist on your clip. But this would mean some metal work.

Thank you very much for this helpful info.

I'll be contacting the support to see if they (hopefully) still have these parts.

I managed to get the "SCCSMG2-1156" in parts from Scythe support (thanks again, super fast delivery).
Using the new brackets, I could mount the Mugen 2 Rev. A on an Asus Maximus Gene-z/Gen3 (Socket 1155) although I had to use a Noctua backplate because the scythe backplate was colliding with some chip on the backside.

However, despite the atrocious mounting procedure (compared to Thermalright / Noctua), I'm still very pleased with the cooler's performance (25° idle, 53° prime95 4.2Ghz@1.25v).
