Default Scythe former ******** on P5K

Hi guys, just registered here.

I'm about to buy a P5K, and I've got a lovely ******** ( I don't like its new name, but w/e :P )

Could you please tell me if it's compatible with my new motherboard? I've checked the list, and it says ASUS P5K Deluxe and ASUS P5K Premium.

I really like my scythe, I don't want to buy a new cooler

Here a couple of pics, maybe they can help

and this

Hope they are fine.

Ty in advance!

Hi and welcome Dragoz!

Thanks for your trust in Scythe items. ASUS P5K should be fine with Mugen. (Please use the name Mugen instead of ******** =P)
All the coolers and the whole layout look safe, so I don't see any issues.

You can confirm that it worked, that would help us

Did you actually HOTLINK the images or are they on your server? I need to change that, Hotlinks are not allowed. Thanks for your understanding.

What about automatic regulation of RPM. ********/Mugen has 3pin fan, how Q-FAN2 works on Asus P5K boards?

Heym

It should work, as 3-Pin get controlled by various Mainboards anyway. Depends on the Mobo and it features, but most Mobos are handling the fan by reducing the voltage. Gigabyte has quite a lot models with really wide range control.

The control of voltage will not work, aslong as you don't have a PWM 4-Pin fan. At least this was the situation with my P5K-E and a Scythe 3-Pin fan.

I can confirm this: most people in the Asus P5K thread on forumdeluxx.de report that QFAN doesn't work with 3-pin fans. And it doesn't work with 3-pin S-Flex on my P5K Deluxe either.

Any solution for this? Maybe use CFAN1 connection - it is "qfaned" too.
How did you resolve the problem? New FAN? In that case what FAN do you use?

I am not that convinced of PWM as regulation method. I could have replaced the fan with Kama PWM which is 4-pin and would work with QFAN.

But I decided to use Zalman Fan Mate 2 for regulation.

I would just go for a fan controller, makes most sense as I don't really like PWM fans...just my personal impression/feeling about it.

Please DO NOT say this, I've personally tried to fit a mine to this board pointing in the direction as shown in the manual so that it directs air horizontally out of the case. The black component (shown by the yellow arrow) sticks up about 1mm above the level of the heat sink base, so tightening it down bends the motherboard.
