Default Mugen 2 rev. B backplate problem "is short posible?!?"

I am afraid that the new back-plate (F.M.S.B.) could make short. The back solder joints contacts of the MB which are covered by the back-plate are sharp enough so they can pinch through backplates insulating foam and make short of my asus-p6t deluxe v2. Any experience? My CM extreme power 550w PSU burned and I wonder if some short made that happened. So are additional plastic washers needed because i didn`t received any in the box. Please quick answer because I am afraid so I am returning back on stock cooler.

Hi,
I think you already wrote me a support request, but I'll answer this post, too ^^

The Mugen 2 backplate has a plastic isolation under the "soft" isolation. So you'll need a very sharp knife to cut that though(I've tested it).
It's unlikly that a short circuit on the CPU socket has burnt your PSU, short circuits would burn the motherboard in my opinion.

Ok thanks. After you wrote that besides isolating foam there is plastic insulator I am not worried. I guess that if there was short my mainboard would be fried not the PSU.
Thanks for your quick reply.

That's good to read. I also was a bit afraid of this. My Intel DX38BT motherboard also has some pins sticking out from the soldering points under the CPU socket. The backplate fits nicely over it with the pins sticking in the soft foam. The cooler works nicely but it is reassuring to know that there is an additional plastic layer for electrical insulation.

Can I be sure that it is really so ?

I have mugen 2 rev. B and ASUS P8Z68-PRO. As I can see, there are a lot outputs of different elements that may be shorten by backplate (although it is positioned as LGA-1155 compatible). For example, outputs of capacitors are very sharp. Also, probably, it seems to be not safe to install as under some pressure, backplate may damage elements(capacitors).

This item is very important for me, as in the case there are no guarantees that my motherboard will not be damaged, my mugen is useless for me.

Thank you.
