Default Mugen 2 on E8400

hey im just wondering about about at what temperature is considered a good temperature. Right now i run at about 57 degree max and 45degree idle on E8400 CPU at 3.0Ghz. I've seen online ppl saying that they have 30 degree idle some even 20s the only thing i suspect for my current temperature is that i put too much thermal paste on and i have to redo this

thx

I personally would say that 45 in idle is not good for a E8400 @ stock clock speed.

First, you can undervolt the E8400 quite a lot if your mainboard supports it. This can drecrease the temps significantly in idle and under load.

As you didn't tell us anything about the rest of the system it's hard to make proposes - if your airflow is insufficient you can easily reach high temps even in idle with a cpu like E8400 which is normally easy to handle.

And yes - too much thermal grease could also have strong influence on your temps.

ok well im sure i have good airflow my room is pretty cool at nightfall

i have Antec 300 case with Scythe Slip Stream Kaze Jyuni 120MM Fan 1200RPM infront inside theres the stock fan that came with the mugen 2 not sure what model didnt look at 1200RPM blowing through the heatsink on the other end of the heatsink theres an exhaust Scythe Kaze Maru 140MM Cooling Fan 1200RPM on top fan slot making the airflow looking like an L shape

Re-apply the thermal grease and while doing this check the imprint of Mugen's base plate on a fresh layer of thermal grease. It is possible that your CPU's heatspreader is uneven causing high temps.

i just found out something interesting

which one should i believe it seems that Asus AI Suite says my CPU Temp is 30s as well as SpeedFan but speedfan also says something about core1 and core2 at 50s which proves coretemp and realtemp correct which one am i suppose to look at?

Core temps. Always. Based on them (in fact on distance to TJMax) your CPU thermal behavior (throttle/thermal shutdown) is dictated.
My rule of thumb is to keep distance to TJMax>20 in load and forget about temps.

Idle temperature on 45nm CPU's are meaningless. Those sensors aren't made to show correct temperatures but only to control thermal behavior so in idle they're way off and they start to be more precise as they approach to TJMax.
Run 15 minutes of prime95/Orthos Small FFTs and see what temperature you get.
