Hi ulli,

SCMG - 2000 Mugen 2 (old)
SCMG - 2100 Mugen 2 Rev.B (new with LGA 1156 compatibility)

Deren Rev A steht nun unten unter "discontinued products".

Default GA-P55A-UD4 with Mugen2 revb - Backplate doesn't fit

Hi!

Got my Mugen2 RevB today, that should be compatible
with socket 1156.

But the backplate doesn't fit on my
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 Board.

The backplate collides with a screw, that holds a mainboard-cooler in place.

On the other side of the CPU some soldered points seem to be too high for the backplate. (they are higher that the thickness of the rubber coating on the backplate)

I attached some photos of the problem...
Is there a possiblity to get some different backplate, even from third distributors?

If there is no solution, I'll send back the cooler tomorrow...
The cooler would fit on the board, if it wasn't for this severe problem...

kingjohn,

If you have the right tools, you could try doing the same as this guy: New mounting Kit for Mugen 2 LGA 1156 (Pre-Order Ended)

Or do you think the soldered VRM contacts (or something) above the socket would prevent the use of the backplate anyway? Could you perhaps post some higher resolution pictures of the issue?

If that is the case, then this problem might affect quite a few Gigabyte mobos. :/

Hi!

I will not cut the backplate, because some metal splinters
might stay on the soft material on the downside of the plate that could cause a short circuit.

I also think, that these solderpoints are too high for the plate to be installed safely.
The points are higher, than the thickness of the soft material. They will stick into the metalplate if the screws are fastend too strong. -> again: short circuit or damaged solder points

I ordered the mounting kit from noctua today, and will just use the nuctua backplate, which is of a much better design...
I inspected a noctua plate today and I think it will work much better than the scythe one.

But I will know for 100% when I got it delivered.

I can't send you more pictures, because I just took those two.
I needed my new PC for work and installed the intel boxed cooler for the time being.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up. Please report back when you have tried out the Noctua backplate, as this can help others. I'm considering getting a Gigabyte P55 mobo with Mugen 2 myself.

From the pictures it looks like they should indeed be compatible. However, you should pay special attention to how tight it will be, because if I've understood correctly the Scythe screws are meant to be tightened to a fixed degree, and with the different backplate the travel length for the screw might be different.. if you see what I mean.

I guess the question is if the fit will be tight enough when screwed all the way in. Anyway, I wish you success.
