Default Asus P5QC, Socket 775 stabiliser and Mugen 1

I have just replaced the plastic push pins on my Mugen 1 (Scythe ********) with the socket 775 stabiliser fitting. When I rebuilt my computer I found that the processor temps are now higher than they were before. This leads me to think I haven't tighted the screws on the stabiliser enough. My question is thus: how do you know how tight to tighten the screws? Can you over tighten them and damage the CPU or motherboard?

Any particular reason why Scythe staff haven't answered this question?

When you do not use excessive force you can only tighten the screws to a specified point and not any further. Tightening them more would mean damaging a part (bracket, board etc.).

Re-apply the thermal grease or rotate the cooler 180°. Also check the imprint of the cooler's base plate on the thermal grease on top of the CPU heatspreader.
