Default problem with mugen2 and i7 920 d0 + ram clearance

My pc was put together at the store. I have a GA ex58 UD4 board with I7 920. It seems the ram height of the g.skill trident (6 slots full) interferes with the mugen 2 fan placement.

The way it was installed: The fan is above the ram heatsinks but due to this it is sticking out about 2.5 cm from the top of the heatsink. More important: The bottom 2.5 cm of the heatsink is not covered by the fan.

D0 at 3.7ghz - 1.2 vcore - ram at 1580(or so) with voltage 1.66 (as rated)
my load temps (prime95) on the hottest core are 75 celcius.
Idle is 45+ celcius.

I read here It's also possible to add another fan at the back - however i have only 2.75 cm space there to the case exhaust fan. If I put another fan there it will be almost touching the exhaust fan.

I have here scythe s-flex fans (both types yellow and blue) - would it benefit my temps to replace the mugen 2 fan with the blue (stronger) s-flex?

Last thing I considered - Reverse the case exhaust fan to push air towards the Mugen 2 (2.7 cm away) and reverse the mugen original fan to pull air away from the heatsink - and into the case basically. I still have the psu sucking air out the back and a top 120mm fan sucking air up and out of the case.

Any help / suggestions would be great - sorry for the long post.

p.s. tiny question - where can i get more of those metal things to connect fans to the mugen 2. Did not get any extra from the store. How many are included in the original package?

Hi,

we know this issue with such high memory sticks. but what i want to say first: your temps looks ok.

Maybe our new Slip Stream Slim Fans are interessting for you. These fans are only 12 mm high, so you have enough space to your exhaust fan and also a second sucking fan on you mugen 2. Otherwise you can try to reinstall your exhaust fan and use the Mugen 2 fan in sucking mode in combination woth the "E" S-Flex (yellow). You have to try it on your own which is the best installation in your case. But dont expect a hugh jump, because your are temps looks ok what i can read.

Cheers Chris

Thanks for response - now i have indication that it is ok.

I installed 2Xslipstream 1200 on the mugen 2 - reduced 3 degrees celcius across the board.

might try the kaze maru ( have 1 here) also to see if there is any difference.

Next i will replace the 2 slipstream with 1600 rpm model (waiting for those to arrive) so I can control the fan speed to go to maximum when cpu cores go over 67 - 68 degrees.
