Default Asus P5T V2 (rev.1.xx) and Scythe Mugen 2 - to hot ?

I have got a Mugen 2 and a Asus P6t Deluxe V2, but my temps seem to high, especially on idle. I have got my Core i7 @ 19 x 200 @ 1.216 with HT on and idle temps are 50.50.50.48 degrees Celsius.

Even when I lower the vCore and lower the frequency (default) my temps stay the same. I cannot understand what I am doing wrong, I have mounted the heatsink three times now with AS5, using different amounts of AS5 (mounted like 69 heatstinks with AS5 and know that I am not using to much paste)

Stressing out with Prime95 (small FTTS) gets 80 - 80 - 78 -75 degrees..(with case open) Linx does +7 degrees on all cores..case clsed does 86-86-80-80 or something..

I have just finished installing a similair setup as mine for a friend of mine.. he is getting idle temps 35 - 40 degrees celsius, with (another core I7 batch) but using the same vcore / frequency.

I have got 2x 120MM fans.. One intake and one outtake, + 120MM Scythe cooler. What also doesnt improve my idle core temp. is leaving my case open. What I didnt do was remount my 'Spider".
I have 'aligned' my Mugen 2 heatsink in the direction of my case.. see underneath:

Any suggestions or thoughts about my setup? Because everybody seem to have lower (idle) and stress temperatures.. it seems unlikely that my heatsink isnt 100%..

Hi,

sorry for my late response.

50°C is a little bit to much, thats right. Are this Temps measured with 100% full fan speed ? or with PWM control? Do you already try to turn the Mugen 2 about 180°. Because what i think there are some contact issues between your CPU HS and the Base of the Mugen 2.

Cheers Chris

Nice name you have got their : )
These temps. are with all fans on full. I have mounted my Mugen 2 now three times, but I never made sure my mugen was rotated 180degrees. Will try it out next weekend. I will keep you posted and will make some pictures of my case / airflow situation.

Some people have found the thread on the bolts that secure the back plate are not long enough to provide good contact on p6t deluxe. Could try aiding a washers to space it out but personally on my p6t deluxe I get idle temps of around 30 and full load of around 58-60 thats at stock voltages and bclk at 20x175 and thats with not optimal fan placement as my fan doesnt get past my ram heatsinks in the optimal spot.

Rotated the Mugen2 180 degrees

Still 50++ on idle.
85 Stressed with HT on @ 1.225v @ 3.8Ghz
With 21 x 133 BCLK and HT on @ 1.20 @ 2793 I get the same idle temps.

I posted some pics on how the AS5 was applied before my remount and some pics how my screws are now.

Mounted screw, is this a normal mount or should the metal plate be bended more towards the motherboard? (there is no way the tighten these screws more)

The screws that came with my Mugen 2..

My case with the airflow shown.

Level of AS5 used in previous situation, used less as5 now..

backplate mount.

btw: I noted the gray fins below my Mugen 2 are REAL REAL hot, when I touch it.. cannot touch it longer then 5 secs.. can people check if the have got the same?

I remember I mounted the backplate pretty tight.. maybe if I loosen the screws a bit, there is more space between the screws and I can tighten my heatsink a little little bit more? Getting an expert in removing my motherboard from my pc so : )

The idle temps concern me more then my stress temps, it seems there is something not 100% and as a result I hope stressed will get lower also ;(

And suggestions / ideas ?

Hi,

you didnt said in you first post that you overclocked your CPU to 3,8Ghz, bzw. i oversea it. With this frequency your temps makes much more sense, because these are "normal" for such a clocked i7. what i see fron the installation all is fine.

cheers chris

Also on stock voltages, stock multiplier, voltage on 1.1v I am getting 50+ degrees idle.
well.. and I did mention I overclocked my system (19 x 200).. so their is something not right.

mhm,

the only thing i can imagin now is that the base of the cooler didnt fit with your CPUs HS. In this case the only way to do something against it, is to get a new Mugen 2.

you know what i mean?
