Default Mugen 2 with Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme motherboard

Hi
I have just purchased the above motherboard and installed my Mugen 2 heatsink. The problem I may have is that I have ordered 6gb corsair dominator memory ( 3x 2gb sticks ) and Im wondering if the heat prongs may hit the mugen? I mean until I actually get them and try to install them, I wont know. Looking from above it seems the Mugen goes over the first memory slot and partially over the second, but i havn't the measurements to the height of the Dominator sticks.
Anyone out there know?

Won't work which Dominator sticks in slots which are covered by Mugen's fan. They are just too high. Would only work with small heatspreaders like installed on Corsair TWIN2X kits.

Dominator or reaper won't work as the fan bottom virtually sits on toip of the RAM modules in normal setup (but those normal sticks to fit unterneath the fan) but as soon as you add 5mm (which the Dominators do at least) you get a problem.

BUT: If your case's width is sufficient you can install the fan a bit higher to get some free space for the heatsinks of the RAM modules. Depending on your case this can work out with the Dominator but would never fit with the Reapers.

You can try this, hopefully it'll work.

Concerning the pull setup: In many cases there is just no other mounting of the fan possbile due to the wide variety of board layouts, RAM modules etc. - so you should just try this too. If you could additionally get some fresh air from your case's front to the front of Mugen 2 (they side where you would have mounted the fan if there weren't those Dominators) this will help to improve temps.

Second possibility is to arrange airflow from front intake at bottom to the PSU fan which means to mount Mugen 2 horizontal and the fan on Mugen's bottom blowing into the PSU's intake fan.

Default thx oli for the reply

Thx for the reply Oli.
I have mounted the Mugen fan supplied on the top so as not to cause a problem with the memory sticks. I will have a three stick setup, so with this motherboard numbers 1,3 & 5 mamory banks are used. Number 6 is completly under the Heat sink, but 5 is just to the edge, and thats a big just! so im hoping it may be ok (fingers crossed big time!).
Problem I have is that I ordered my memory from a real incompetent supplier called pc-doctor.org.uk and still havn't received it yet! when I ordered it back on the 2nd June, so cannot build my pc untill im sure its going to be ok!

Default i wonder!

Out of curiosity, if, thats a big if, I manage to fit the Corsair Dominator into the banks, but the heat fins actually touch the Mugen 2 Heat sink, could this be a problem? My case is an Antec 900 so plenty of air comming in.

I'd personally prevent direct contact but it probably won't have a massive influence on the temps.

IF you want to manage to get the RAMs underneath Mugen's fan this will mean that you mount the fan on a very high position on Mugen. This can work if the width of your case allows it. The fan will then stick out above the caps of the heatpipes quiet a bit.

Default Height

Ok, thx for the input again Oli.
My case will not allow for the Mugen 2 to get any higher. It fouled the side fan which I had to 'mod' to allow it to fit already. Im just hoping to miss the side of the heatsink. Still havn't received my Dominator sticks yet!

Default update on my memory

Just found out that the company who I purchased my Dominator memory sticks from are a bunch of con artists. I went to their website, now their contact phone numbers no longer work, seems the guy incharge has several company names from the same address, and has conned quite a few people. www.pc-doctor.org.uk. Don't touch them!
