Default AMD 6000+ on GA-M55S-S3 Fan Speed Question

I've just installed the MINE on the above and am impressed at the reductions in temperature achieved over the stock AMD cooler.

The CPU is overclocked 210 FSB with a VID at 1.38V.

CPU temperatures from Everest as follows

Idle in Windows 21 deg C with MINE and 32 deg C with AMD

ORTHOS after 5 mins 34 deg C with MINE and 54 deg C with AMD

Needless to say I am very pleased and happy with the performance of the MINE, especially when compared to the stock cooler!

I've one question regarding fan speed

The motherboard supports CPU Smart Fan control - which I have enabled and set CPU Smart Fan Mode to voltage for MINE (3 pin fan power cable) and for the AMD set to PWM (4 pin fan power cable).

What I have noticed is that the MINE fan speed varies with temperature - between 800rpm and 1200rpm at idle and ORTHOS respectively. I assume the motherboard is varying the voltage applied to the fan

The question is, is this correct for the MINE? I understood from the MINE specifications that the fan speed was fixed at 1500rpm +/- 10%.

TIA

PS You can add this mobo to your compatibility list. The MINE is a good fit, easily clearing the electrolytic caps near the socket and most importantly clearing the CORSAIR DDR800 memory fitted in the 2 slots nearest to the CPU socket - the ones recommended by Gigabyte for Dual Channel memory.

HI,

Well, did you try to connect the Mine fan directly to 12v Lane? If you do that, you will most likely get the 1500rpm +/-10%. I think the mobo regulation is simply not giving 100% because the temps are at full laod not reaching 40,45 or something what they define as"disky, dangerous" or anything like that. This means you can have more silent system, with good perfromance, which is good, isn't it? =)

Hi,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Yes, I am very pleased with the performance of the MINE

The Windows idle temperature is less than 0.5 deg C above ambient - very impressive!

The lower fan speed is a bonus and yes the lower noise level is appreciated.

I haven't tried running the fan from a 12V supply - doesn't seem worth it.
