Thumbs up Mugen 2 Rev. B fits good on Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5

Hello,

i've put an new Mugen 2 Rev B in an passive configuration on my non-OC system and i'm very impressed of the quality of the cooler!

Installation is a little bit tricky but almost perfect.

I've used the scythe slipstram as the back-fan of my case (Antec Threehundred) and a Noctua Ultrasilent 140 mm as an additional top-fan. The mugen itself is fanless. The i7-860 on the GA-55-UD5 board gives me after 1 hour in idle mode 29 degrees celsius. Both fans, controlled by speedfan 3.0, were running with about 650 upm.

After one hour with intelburn-test program with 8 threads i've got about 60-62 degrees. Room temperature was 21 degrees. Both were running at about 750 upm not been heard.

Absolutly perfect combination for an non-overclocked but silent system. The graphic-card is an passive cooled type (i'm not a heavy gamer).

I have a Gigabyte P55-UD4 with an Intel i5 750, Socket LGA1156, the boxed cooler was kinda noisy, when idling the cores were at ~40°C and when rendering stuff in 3DsMax my CPU temp went up to ~70°C
So I got myself a Mugen 2 Rev. B...

It works fine, my cores are down to ~30°C in idle, ~45°C when rendering, but mounting it on the mainboard was kinda hard.

Here's some pictures:

I had no one to help me out, so I had to prop up the board like this, held one of the fxing cups with a pair of tweezers and turned the corresponding screw with a screwdriver, while pushing down on the board itself with my chin, so it wouldn't move >_>

As you can see above, the passive cooling units on the board make it hard to reach the cups with your fingers, and you have to insert your RAM before installing the cooler. There is still room between the fan and the RAM, but not much. (I put the fan on that side, so it would blow the air out of the back, where it's supported by a case fan)

And this is the worst part, that plate on the back of the board is larger than the opening in the backplate.
I carefully removed a little of the insulation washer (not all of it, there's still some of it between the plates) and had to gently press down on the cooler, so I could get the screws through the assembly clip far enough to get them in the fixing cups.

Not fun, but it works.

EDIT:
Um... Yeah, I just noticed that the backplate has a notch, so I simply had to turn it around and wouldn't have had such a problem with it.
Don't know why I didn't notice that when installing the cooler
Well, I feel like an idiot now, but it works and I honestly don't want to take my comp apart again just to turn the backplate around...

Has anybody installed the Mugen-2 on an Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3?

The new LGA1156 back plate covers the solder legs of the capacitors surrounding the CPU. That's 6 capacitors one side and 7 capacitors on another side.

I guess the Mugen-2 is NOT compatible with the GA-H55M-xxx series?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Andy.

Guten Morgen,

CPU: Intel i7 860

Mainboard:ASUS P7P55D EVO (P55 S1156 ATX)

Arbeitsspeicher: 4 mal 2 GByte G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 RAM 1333

Mfg,

Limerik

Thumbs up Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H: Compatible (Mugen 2 Rev. B)

Certain memory modules could cause problems though:

Since my HTPC got blessed by Scythe cooling earlier this year I just knew my new gaming rig would get a Scythe cooler too.
Cooling my Phenom 2 X4 965 BE (125W) with stock clocks of 3,4Ghz @ 25°C in idle and 45°C with Prime95 now. With 3,8Ghz only 49°C core temp. Keep up the good work!

Default ASUS P7P55D with G.SKILL Ripjaws

works on ASUS P7P55D with G.SKILL Ripjaws. Not that much space left though.

Hi,

Is the Mugen 2B compatible with this configuration :
- Mobo GA-P55A-UD5
- Ram those GSkill Ripjaws G.SKILL-Products

I'm afrai the memory modules are too high.

Thanks for you answer.
