I'm sure the Scythe staff will comment on this next week but AFAIK the backplate installation is a MUST for mounting of Mugen 2 therefore you'll have to remove the stock backplate which results in losing your warranty.

There are no other clips delivered with Mugen 2 that would allow an alternative mounting method on Socket 1366 as the only other thinkable possibility would be converting to Socket 478 like the good old Scythe Retention Kit did but on Socket 1366 this would also result in removing the stock backplate as prerequisite for installing the Socket 478 rails. So this is also a dead end.

Hi,
I just built the MUGEN 2 on an ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard (AM3 with a phenom x4 955 ). Perfect fit, I removed the factory installed CPU retention module, which was easy and installed the Mugen by putting the motherboard
upside down on the Mugen and a pile of books and boxes.
Then I installed the memory dimms, and then I fitted the CPU fan on the Mugen 2. After that, I fitted the motherboard in the PC case.

Default Will it work!?

Will the Mugen 2 cover any slots on a 790FX Mobo using Mushkin DDR3 1600 Ram??

Hopefully i will be able to use all 4 slots seeing as the mobo only has 4 to begin with.

Newegg.com - ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

Newegg.com - mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996601 - Desktop Memory

Thanks!

As I understand from reading the forum somthing needs to be removed from the back of the MB to install "Mugen 2" which voids the warranty. Is this true?
I have Rampage II Extreme from ASUS like the one shown 2 posts above.
I am glad to hear that Mugen 2 fits though.

THXTEX: Can you confirm or deny (that the warranty will void after installing this cooler).

Also is this the case with "Scythe Ninja Mini Rev.B SCMNJ-1100 Heatpipe"?

Regards, Oleg.

Officially: Yes, the warranty will void if you remove the back plate.

Unofficially :-) : The back plate is mounted with 4 screws. There is no glue or any warranty-sticker that is teared apart, so you can just put the original back plate back on in case you have to return your motherboard. There is no way Asus will be able to see that it has been off.

On the picture you can see the Asus back plate - the one to the top and the one that has to be fitted instead (at bottom). The 4 screws are in the CPU-cover

There are no 'original washers (4 pcs)' as described in the Scythe manual between cover and motherboard, so I found some elsewhere and used those instead.
