Hmm good question. I believe it fit both ways but I just sold my rampage yesterday so I can't be 100% sure.

What I do know is that the heatsinks around the socket don't cause problems so the only thing that could go wrong is the fan touching the rams or something.

To be safe I'll say I'm 99% sure it fits the other way too.

Mugen 2 should fit - maybe 1 RAM Slot is blocked.

1. Am I right in assuming that I have to remove the retention-kit (orange frame) on the GA-MA790GP-DS4H to install the Mugen2? It it easy?

2. Do I need a special retention-frame for this cooler or can I install it without retention-kit?

Hello JJFlash,

jepp you are right, first of all you have to remove the original retention-kit. This is really easy to be done.

Everything what is needed to mount Mugen 2 is inside of the package.
