![]() Think I'll spend £70 on that motherboard and keep my aging 939 X2 processor going another 6 months or so till 45nm quads are a bit cheaper and then make that jump for a brand spanking new setup... of course, with my Scythe Ninja, or another Scythe heatsink ![]() |

Just had a call from the company I found that was stocking that discontinued motherboard and unfortunatly they don't have any stock of it left... the only 939 + AGP mothboard they have in stock is the following, which I think may not be suitable due to the capacitors near the socket... what do you think?
Its the Abit UL8 motherboard ![]() |

Hello
AhhooOOo: You are right, that row will be a problem. Either you are lucky and they are already bent to the side or you have to pull them to the side. If that is not the case, I would say it is not compatible, sorry. As Oli said, Mugen should be fine. Superczynski: Normal Ninja PLUS will not work as far as I know. I would say "not compatible", to be on the safe side. xafier: If I understood well, then you just can buy the Universal Retention Kit, it has a backplate solution combined with a Socket 939 retention, alls crews are supplied. Ninja PLUS should be compatible to the mobo, the capacitors are rather on the outside where the heatpipes are not located, based on your image. Abit UL8 has the capacitors too close to the socket. You have to push them away, or they are already sodlered away from the socket, if you are lucky. Other than that it would be "not compatible" because of these. Big thanks to Oli, once again =)

xafier: Thanks, I hope you can avoid buying a new mobo and buy it when you are ready for a completely new system
![]() Thanks for supporting Scythe

Ended up shelling out for a new system, having glued the old socket into place I couldn't remove it without damaging the motherboard... and I couldn't get hold of a replacement...
Anyways, I'm now the proud owner of an Intel E8200 on a Gigabyte X38 DS4 motherboard ![]() The ninja fits well, although the heatpipes on one side are touching the big northbridge/mosfit cooler... not sure if this is going to transfer a lot of heat onto this or not?? Also, I'm not getting the best temperatures in the world to say that this 45nm chip should be pushing out about 40w less heat than my A64 chip! Although I think that may be to do with the thermal compound I used (accidently bought Arctic Silver Ceramique instead of Arctic Silver 5!), so I will reseat the heatsink again once I receive the IC Diamond 7 Carat paste I ordered ![]() I heard the push pin 775 socket that you get with the ninja doesn't put enough pressure on the socket is this true? It certainly felt as though it was as it was hard to push the last pin in place! I'll have to re-evaluate that once I see my temps with a better thermal compound! |

xafier: I have no clue what you glued and made there, sorry.
About the Gigabyte X38 DS4, you should turn Ninja PLUS by 90°, because on one side of the cooler the heatpipes are sticking out more than the other. The heat is not the problem here ![]() As for the Push Pins, they have a lot of pressure but if you are not lucky with them or do not put them tight enough inside, might be not that good. Overall they are ok to be used, you can even mount 2kg with Push Pins, it's just a fact that it works out, unless you do crazy things... Thermal grease gives you maybe 1-2°C based on what I remember, if you use the liquit metal, I don't calculated that in. For the difference between A64 and E8200, these are 2 different types of CPU, forget about the comparison, because the A64 did not use the same way of measuring the temperature to start with.
