Default Compatibility with Asus P5GD1

I am about to buy this cooler (Ninja Plus REV.B), but wanted to make sure, what with Asus' terrible record of not knowing where to put capacitors that this cooler is compatible with the Asus P5GD1

I did not see it in your compatibility list, does anyone know if they are compatible?

Thanks

Hello again,

jasee: I'd like to thank you for your suggestions and your help in first place. Unfortunately I didn't made it on time to mention the problem and there are just too many Mobos. So here comes a briefly answer.

There capacitor problem is something we can not affect that much, adjusting all the models will cost a lot due to tooling and if we make it too complicated, it will be too expensive on the market. It is all about compromises. It would take too long to explain but I put it in short: We care about compatibility a lot, that is why we are running this forum, reacting on users feedback as much as possible and try to solve compatibility issues. Yet thanks for the feedback, it is not wasted

Serge: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3-R and -P seem to have pretty much the same layout. Katana 2 should be compatible to both motherboards, my rating would be 90% compatibility.

hitech: Asus P5GD1 looks like it should have not much trouble. The capacitors are my only concern, in most cases they cause no problems, but you never know. I'd say 90% compatible, rest is up to ASUS to solver the capacitors not too high =)

I just want to add my experiences with Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 and Ninja PLUS. When fan is installed on the right side, its covering RAM slots 1 and 2, so you can not use Dual Channel. You can install it on the bottom as well, as it was mentioned here before.

Just wanna say that its not really impossible to put it on right side. If you install RAM first, than you can put fan above it. The tools which hold fan on the scelet are little bit moveable up and down. If you put it as high as you can, its not even touching ram (although there is no more than mm space between them - I wonder if it can not cause problems, by the way. I mean things like RAM heating or so... Maybe somebody could know better).

Hm and when Im talking about touching of components. When fan is installed on the bottom of cooler, its touching the cooler of chipset on the motherboard. I wonder if it is safety as well.

IMHO its better to put fun on the side. Its blowing air right out of the case, not into the power source. Im right now checking temperatures in 100% CPU usage and when fan is installed on the side, it gave me cca 2-3C smaller temperature of CPU than when it was on the bottom. So in this way the difference is really small.

Hi TiLK,

Thanks for confirming the compatibility, which is a bit individual as most of the times.

1. The RAM should ideally not be touched by the metal-clip, as some parts of the ram are soldered and these spots could get you some problems. If the clip touches the RAM heatsink, then no problem at all, because both Ninja PLUS, the Clip and the RAM Heatsink should not have any contact to any pwer source, otherwise you would grill your CPU and the IHS is not supplying any power, neither the RAM CHIPs are.

2. Northbridge Coolers are same as above, they are for cooling and not transport any power or get in contact with any source, it's just not good for Mobo or better "it's not planned to have it".

Default P5k Pro + Dhx

I'm looking for this combination: Ninja + Asus P5K PRO + Corsair DHX and I'm wondering if any issue is possible.
Being the P5K PRO very similar to P5K Deluxe I guess it would be OK, the only concern coming from the mobo's heat spreader closer to the PSU (is there enough space to push and turn Ninja's pins? - the image is taken from another thread about P5K Deluxe).
The other question is: is possible to use Corsair DHX RAM (those with heat spreader) in the first slot, with the fan attached to that side of the Ninja?
Thank you!

I pushed and turned the pushpins from above with a long screw driver. That was no problem. (My picture. )

The Corsair modules seem to be quite high. Perhaps the RAM slot closest to the CPU socket cannot be used. Probably two slots cannot be used. You could put the fan a bit higher. This could be sufficient to clear the RAM slots.

Bye Oliver
