Big Shurikan on ASUS Rampage II Gene.
The ram (slot A2) first one is covered by the cooler. But for me it doesn't matter as there is a lifetime garantee on the memory. Also after some training it's no big deal to take out the mob for replacing it. This is on the other hand necassary to do when mounting the Big Shurikan as the space between board and cooler is narrow and very hard to push the pins down even when the board is free from the chassi. Intel arrangement.
More information You are able to see in my picture Album when changing and of my first computer project. Trying fan cooling i7 940. Still things outstanding for completing and success. Small chassi=no space.
New in this forum I hope it's done correctly by me.
If not let me know.

Hello,

does the Big Shuriken work with the ASUS M4A785tD-M EVO board? I think there can be problems with the cooler and the northbridge cooler.

Does anybody have experiences with this cooler and this board?

thx

The BIG shuriken is also compatible with the ASRock
M3A785GXH/128M

Only the first of 4 RAM slots is under the cooler so with normal RAM it's no problem - it fits under the cooler (so before you install the cooler put in the ram frist).

But I think RAM with a heatspreader (oc RAM) doesn't fit under but that's just my personal opinion - don't know it for sure.

Conax: I was hoping to install the 120mm Big Shuriken to the GA-MA785g-UD2H mobo. Is this the version that Kama Chameleon stated is compatible with Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (Rev 1.1). What about the RAM sockets. Does it fit over the top of the RAM sticks? I am using 2 sticks of OCZ DDR3 1333 PC-1066 DDR3 RAM in the first two (blue) slots. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/images/display/10011079A.jpg

I just installed this cooler in the GA-MA785g-UD2H. I can confirm that it is compatible with this motherboard and fits under the blue-ray drive in the Silverstone GD04 case. There is still around 1 cm of space between the drive and the fan. It fits on top of the two RAM chips (OCZ 2gb with spreaders) with ~2 mm of clearance. It appears that I can install RAM in the 3rd and 4th sockets without having to remove the cooler. I chose to unscrew the motherboard so that I could see what I was doing on the side of the motherboard where the fan comes close. There is only around 2-3 cm of space between the fan and the edge of the motherboard/case so it would be difficult to close the lever for clamping down the cooler without having another few inches to work with. Also I first tried positioning the cooler before installing it with the result that it grabbed onto the connecting lugs and I needed space to get it off again to apply the thermal grease. Also, unless you have thin fingers, it is a good idea to connect the power socket before clamping down the cooler. My idle temps are 2-3 degrees lower than stock, and the stress temps at least 5 degrees lower that with the stock cooler. I could only run Prime95 for around 5 minutes with the stock cooler but had no problem running it for 90 minutes now with the cpu/mobo temps flatting out at around 60/64 degrees. Not adequate for OC'ing but enough to increase longevity for general use. These figures were obtained with thermal control disabled and 3 additional 80mm exhaust fans, so I can't give all the credit to the cooler. My System is almost silent with cool n quiet, etc. enabled and one of my exhaust fans is not real quiet. A full compromise between a gaming computer and HTPC may only be attainable with water cooling. [Edit: AMD can learn from this type of attachment - much easier to install than stock heat sink/cooler. I had to use a screwdriver to get the second stock cooler clip down far enough to attach to the lug. The screwdriver slipped and just missed the edge of my new motherboard. Whew! This technique is laughing at the AMD setup.]

Hello

Does the Shuriken Rev. B CPU Cooler will work with ASUS P5GD1-FM with
Intel Pentium 4 541, 3200 MHz (16 x 200) prescott.
Right now my idle temperature is 62.

I had quite good results with those high TDP P4 models with Katana 3. I'm afraid cooling won't be noticeably better with Shuriken compared to stock cooler. Static pressure of Katana 3 fan is better than the slim fan on Shuriken. Nevertheless you'd need a much bigger cooler to really get nice temps.

I personally would neither use it with P4 nor with AMD 955. The Shuriken was never designed to cool high TDP CPUs. It was designed for small and flat HTPC cases with rather low voltage and low TDP CPUs. That is its main purpose.

Surely some users also use the Shuriken (but more often its bigger brother Big Shuriken) with stronger CPUs but Ninja 2, Orochi, Mugen 2, Yasya and Grand Kama Cross are designed for these CPUs primarily. A very very good airflow is a must when trying to use Shuriken on a TDP monster like the old P4 series'.

You can try it anyway but if it was my choice i would pick another Scythe cooler which is more suitable. Due to its compact design the Shuriken simply lacks metal material compared to the big tower coolers or the Grand Kama Cross. And surely they simply move much more air as 120mm and 140mm fans are used.
