Default Grand Kama Cross won't fit

Hello everyone. I've got an issue with my Grand Kama Cross cooler. I had it placed on my old motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-880GM-D2H, by a supplier. It barely fit, which I noticed when I tried to remove it to place it in another case with another motherboard, an ASRock 990FX Extreme3. Where it was very hard to remove it from the old motherboard (since the clips wouldn't let go of the motherboard bracket), it's impossible to put it on the new motherboard. For some reason I'm missing a good 2-3mm with each clip when I place the cooler on the CPU, and when I tilt the cooler for attach 1 clip, I miss at least 5mm on the other clip because of that tilt.

There are no cables blocking the way and the memory modules also cause no problem, so as far as I can tell only the CPU is blocking it from lowering far enough. It's a Phenom II X4 965 BE, which I also took from my old motherboard.

The compatibility list stickied above is quite short and hasn't been updated for a long time, so I can't really go on that. Also, I find a shortage of 3mm on each side a bit much to be normal. Does anybody have an idea how this might be caused or how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance

Photos? Please.

Also take a look at the AMD installation animation here: https://secure.scythe-eu.com/scy1000/index.php?id=447

See the cooler sliding when one side of the clips is connected to the ret module? Perhaps this helps.

Otherwise photos can help.

This is a picture of the CPU without the cooler. You can see the size of the motherboard bracket. Don't mind the thermal paste, I'm not going to replace it until I've got this issue solved and I can put a cooler on it again.

And another one from further away

Here's a picture with the cooler clipped on the other side without applying pressure on the cooler.

You can see it better from up close

And finally a picture of the cooler clipped on the other side while applying pressure to try and make the clip you see fit the motherboard bracket.

As you can see, the bottom of the opening of the clip barely reaches the top of the roughly 3mm thick bracket lip over which the clip has to slide to lock into place.

Hello OmniShift,

please don't mount the cooler! You haven't the right screws to connect the AMD-mounting clip with the Grand Kama Cross! This screws have a to big screw head! That's the problem, why the Grand Kama Gross don't fits.

The right screws - you need - can you get from us, if you don't found it at home.

You mean the screws on the black motherboard bracket? Those were pre-installed on the motherboard. How to those screws interfere with the cooler and what screws do I need instead? Can you send me a link?

ftp://ftp.scythe-eu.com/Manuals/CPU-...ross-Rev_B.pdf

Screw heads are not supposed to stick out! They shall build an even surface with the clip they are securing.

Also your movable part of the mounting clips which directly connects to the retention module are not in the appropriate level - see the PDF and the illustration showing "OK" and "NG". Mounting with this part in NG position is not recommended.

Oh wow, you might be right, I didn't even notice they were blocking it all. I just don't understand how it was possible to fit it on the old motherboard.

Can you send me a link to the right screws I need?

EDIT: Thanks. I don't have the Rev B though (at least that doesn't show on the box). Does that make a difference with the plate?

No Problem, please use the Support Request for this. You need to buy it from us.

Accessories of the Grand Kama Cross

You need the little 4 screws in the lower middle of the picture.

The box says there were 4 screws provided with the cooler. Since my old computer was assembled by the shop where I bought it from spare parts and the screws are not in the package anymore, I can only assume that the ones provided are the ones you see in the pictures. Just to be sure, I made some photo's of the screw's width and height to confirm that they really are too big.
