Default Katana 2 fan direction?

Hello forum!

I have a Katana 2 CPU cooler on an Asus P5K SE motherboard.

Is the fan supposed to suck air through the fins or blow?

There was no information on fan orientation in the manual.

So, I set my system up assuming that it would blow air through the fins and then out through the exhaust fan, but instead it is sucking air in the opposite direction.

Intuitively, I would expect blowing through the fins to be more effective than sucking. If it is supposed to blow, what could be wrong?

That's correct. All Scythe coolers are primarily designed for a setup were fresh air is blown through the fins. So your installation should be fine.

Ok, my mistake. The fan was blowing air through the fins, but a lot of air was bouncing off and returning in the opposite direction (not helped by a thick layer of dust between fan and fins!).

Incidently, after removing the dust and replacing silicon paste with high quality stuff, the temperature dropped from 60C to 40C. :-)

Yes your installation should be fine because all coolers blow the air through the fins...So don't worry about it..
