I have 4 HDDs:
- Maxtor 3.5 SATA 160 GB - Fujitsu 2.5 IDE Laptop HDD 40 GB - Western Digital 3.5 IDE 40 GB - Maxtor 3.5 IDE 80 GB I was very happy when I buy Kama Connect 2 and I start making back-up and store my old files. I use ViceVersa Pro for synchronize my files with CRC verification option activated. I have no problem with my 3.5 SATA HDD and with 2.5 IDE HDD; everything works fine and CRC calculation in OK, but with both 3.5 IDE HDDs I have errors when I copy big size files. (CRC calculation failed) I try to use Windows Explorer and copy an 320 MB archive file to WD 3.5 IDE HDD. The copy process finished ok, but the archive was copied corrupt. I start making more tests with two kama connect 2 adapters (mine and my friend's one) on other systems and other IDE 3.5 HDDs, and I get same result: With SATA HDDs and 2.5 IDE laptop HDDs everything is OK, but with 3.5 IDE HDDs big files (over 200-250 MB) are copied corrupt. I want to know that this is an issue with big files on kama connect 2 3.5 IDE interface or just bad luck for both devices. Thank you. |

Hi,
It sounds like a problem with IDE jumper settings. It happens, that when you set the jumpers to "Cable Select" the USB-Converting Chips are getting a lot of trouble with it. Could you try again with the IDE HDD jumper set to "Master"? Furthermore, did you try to use a newer IDE HDD as well? Just a general question to analyze the problem. Cheers, Shinigami

Hello.
For both 3.5 IDE HDDs the jumpers was set to Master on Maxtor 80 GB and to Single/Master on Western Digital 40 GB. My friend did tests with his kama connect 2 device and with an WD 120 GB 3.5 IDE. He get the same error (CRC verification failed), only on 3.5 IDE interface and only with big size files. However, I wander what is the problem, because with 2.5 IDE Laptop HDDs and SATA HDDs everything is OK. |

I have the same problem, but i connect any 3,5 IDE HDD and READ is very small - about 1MB/s
And I connected 3,5 IDE and 2,5 IDE at the same time and then NO PROBLEM. I wander what is the problem too :-/ I think KAMA Connect 2 has problem with IDE 3,5 at UDMA 66/100/133 because i connect 3,5 IDE 3GB (very old) and NO PROBLEM. With 3,5 SATA, 2,5 ATA = NO PROBLEM |

I have the same problem with kama connect 2. I have tried 4 of them.
The probem is with the power cable or with the S-video-like output. I connected the 'kama connect 2' IDE 3.5" interface to HDD and supplied the power from a molex connector from PC and the transfer worked fine. There is no need to connect the kama device to power cable; just turn it on. The SATA and IDE 2.5" interfaces worked because the power is suplied internally. The IDE 3.5" provides only the data transfer interface. So, the only solution I see now is to find an independent power supply to connect to HDD. PS: Sorry for my english... |

I have the same problem with Kama Connect Version 2, i buyed this version because i have the Kama Connect Version 1, version 1works very very well, but with Kama Connect version 2 i have that big problem with CRC ERORR. I mention that i use only 1 hard drive conected on the 3.5'' port of Kama Connect, the model is Western Digital WD80BB-00JKC0. Please help us to solve that problem, in my opinion the change of the way that hard drivers are power-on was a big mistake. Also all the files that was copy to the hard drive with kama connect version 1 and after this the hard disk was connected with the computer trought Kama Connect Version 2, was corrupted, the same error CRC, so the problem is Bi-Directional.

Hello, the very same problem with my KAMA2 and IDE HDD connected to it.
I had my KAMA2 replaced 3 times already and it is clear that not only it has a power problem when 2 devices connected but an internal device programming problem too. I connected an old IDE HDD (700mA power consumption) to KAMA2 as a single device, the HDD was unable to produce read rates faster than 1MB/s. Also, tried to copy a 100+MB .rar archive with single device on KAMA2 connected - WHEN copying a large rar file FROM KAMA2 IDE HDD to the notebook internal disk - the archive suddenly became corrupt - CRC error. Now I understand why Nero showed CRC errors when I tried to burn files larger than 100MB from a KAMA2 connected IDE DVDBurner. It is a weird internal error, possibly lame programming. I got serious doubts about Scythe selling this crap 5 months after I reported this problem in another thread. Shame on them. My last KAMA2 replaced device has a production date of 20071202, maybe the problem has been solved since then but it seems that there is nobody from this company that could make a clear statement about it... Simply they don't care. |

I think the issue is confirmed as an internal device problem. (I do not have problems with power adapter)
All of us confronted with the same problem in different situations: files copied with kama connect 2 over the 3.5 ide interface (HDD or CD-RW/DVD-RW) was corrupted, CRC error; Now, we wait for a solution from an Scythe official. Last edited by npn; 04-24-2008 at 12:51 PM. |
