I have now received the molex adapter, and I am sorry to tell that the Kama Connect 2 does not work with this adapter either. I don't get the message about a corrupt filesystem immediately after the disk is plugged in. But the CRC test fails, and eventually, the file system corruption message pops up.

What next to do?

Steinar

Hello Steinar,

this looks as if the Device is defective completely. Please send it for RMA to the shop, where you bought your KC2 - sorry for that.

Cheers,
Stefan

I did some more testing before returning the unit.

I used KC2 for a while, powering the disk from the PC power supply. It seems to work reliable when the disk is powered this way. Did some file copy tests with CRC checking, and I never got a failure.

I also tried to replace the original power brick with a universal one that I have. I configured the power supply to 12/5A, and plugged it into KC2. I got the exact same problem with my disk as with the original power supply.

There is a regulator inside KC2 producing 5V out to the Molex connector from the external 12V supply. I suspect there is a problem here in that my KC2 cannot supply enough current on the 5V line when it is loaded with my disk. The disk is rated 5V/0.75A and 12V/0.9A.

My KC2 will now be returned. Not sure if I will try a second one...

Hello sbjaerum,

for me it sounds as if there is something defective inside of the KC2-module, sorry for that.

That was my point. And my suspicion is that the problem is with the regulator delivering the 5V line out to the Molex adapter.

What I doubt a bit is if a supposedly working KC2 is able to deliver enough current to my disk. The disk is rated at 5V/0.75A and 12V/0.9A.

If there is a spec on the power supply capabilities of the KC2, those numbers would make it easier to assess whether a new KC2 unit would work any better than the one I have now returned...
