Automatic fan speed regulation

Hi

Andy Samurai Master has a 3-pin wire. Does this mean that if I'm going to use this cooler my motherboard (Intel Desktop Board DX38BT) wouldn't be able to automatically regulate the fan speed?

Is it at all compatible with the Intel Desktop Board DX38BT and Arctic Cooling Silentium T2 ECO 80?

Hello again!

The Andy Cooler uses the 3-Pin conenctor but the fan control is basically possible. I don't have a chance to test this with the mentioned Mobo, but I assume that Intel meanwhile also implemented the fan control over voltage, when PWM function is not supported.

I found this in the motherboard manual, but I don't quite understand this. Sorry, PC stuff isn't my strong side

• 4-Pin fan headers are controlled by Pulse Width Modulation
• 3-Pin fan headers (front and rear) are modulated by voltage control

Does this mean, that the 3-pin cooler regulates its fan speed automatically like the PWM function?

Hi,

Yes that is what I was talking about. I can not say how accurate and how many steps you will have with your mobo, but it will control 3-Pin by raising or decreasing the voltage. I assume that you will have at least 5V, 7V and 12V as control. This means the most decent voltage will be 7-12v for your PC and the fan might shut down sometimes. Please do not wonder if the fan does not start after a couple minutes. The sensor needs to reach a special temperature to give more voltage, so it is safe.
