Hi there. I have a Kaze Master 4 fan controller that I've had for several months now. It's worked extremely well!
Today I bought new case fans (3 scythe Sy1225SL12SH). These are the only ones in the case (front, rear, and on Ninja Rev.B). I have them plugged into 1, 2, and 3 on the controller. I noticed right after plugging them in that the controller grew extremely hot and started smelling a bit. The bank of mofsets near the fan wires get so hot that you can't touch them. Even the front panel gets warm. It never acted like this with my Antec TriCool fans. I'm trying to run the Scythe fans at about 1000rpm, turning them up if needed during gaming. Is this undervolting them too much and putting stress on the controller? Thanks for your help. |

I am having exactly the same problem.. Only have 1 fan plugged in and the Kaze Master is getting REALLY hot. It even is starting to smell like hot plastic, like just before its going to smolder. I have put one of those heat sensors on the heatsink kinda things and its reading about 40c, which is the hottest component in my case. I also didn't think that was normal so I've come to this forum to get help and see people are having the same issue..
The fan controller is brandnew by the way, just installed it yesterday and the issue was immediate. As the OP says, you cant even touch the heatsinks without burning your finger. |

Hello guys,
please send the devices directly to us for RMA. Scythe EU GmbH RMA Dept. Willinghusener Weg 5c 22113 Oststeinbek We will then test the devices and check, if this is just an accident or if there is really a problem with a complete batch of Kaze Masters. Kind regards, Stefan - Scythe EU Hamburg

Thank you very much, Stefan! Just last night the fan header #2 started beeping and would not stop. The knob no longer controls the fan's speed at all. It won't turn the fan on. I tried plugging the fan into different headers, and the fan still works fine. The heat related issue maybe got into the IC chip, since the device has been running quite hot for a while now.
All four fans in my case are Scythe Kaze Jyuni slipstreams. Three are 1900rpm, one is a 1200rpm model. I haven't split any headers to run mutliple fans or used more powerful fans. Typically I run them at about 1000-1200rpm. For intense cooling I increase them to 1500rpm for brief periods. The mofsets get extremely hot. While I was plugging in the fan#2 to another header last night, I almost burnt my hand holding the kaze master when my finger touched a mofset on the back side of the controller! Thanks for your help. How soon can I expect a replacement or fixed unit? |

Hello sysgirl2,
for KM01 there is no serial number needed. Replacement will be shipped during the first week after the Holidays. Cheers, Stefan - Scythe EU Hamburg

Hello Scythe staff,
This is relevant to my issue as well. First it was channel three not wanting to turn off, then it was channel four not working at all. In both cases the Kaze Master grew very hot. The serial no. for this particular device is SRP21950. I was very happy with the Kaze Master overall, except for this quality issue. Why I write here instead of just returning it to the shop is because I ordered it from Germany, and I live in Sweden. Shipping is about 15 Euro (got it for 37 along with some wonderful Kaze JyuuNi). Also, I noticed that you are interested in having them back directly (post #3). I might add that I used Kaze JyuuNi 1200 RPM in a two-two-three-two setup. This should be 0.78 A at most for channel three so it should not be a problem if it can take 12 W per channel. I used 3-pin to 2 x 2/3-pin adapters for hooking up all the fans while still getting the RPM data from one fan on each channel. Last edited by NR1234; 01-04-2009 at 05:40 PM. |

Hello NR1234,
thanks for your report. Actually, there could be some issues when using adapters - could you please send the Kaze Master back directly to our RMA Dept. here in Oststeinbek, Germany? Actually, there is no other way to check this problem. Cheers, Stefan - Scythe EU Hamburg
