Scythe YD-8V08-WH card reader & floppy combined

I recently bought this from overclockers in the UK.

I bought the product because I still occasionally have the need to use floppy drives and that it has a card reader also which I would be using often.

Image my fustration when I can get the floppy to work but not the card reader.

At present the USB attachement is actually attached to an expansion card which has an internal USB built on (4 USB at the rear; 1 internal). Everything else I try on this internal USB works fine.

Can anybody tell me if they have had a similar problem, and if so, how was it fixed.
