Try check default settings for i7 940, check temp (it will be over 70C).
When I checked i7 920 at default settings 2.66 (20x133) all settings AUTO, Kabuto cooler.
Temp was 72 C (prime95, full load). So ....68 C ??!!

Hi Thanks I will try this.
I understand you wonder about my temps.
Have a look at my Albums there are some info about my build.
I see the computer as one unit where all parts are giving heat by
convection or radiate energi not only the CPU but also NB, SB,Grafic
card and the motherboard. My board produces about 100W.
All needs to be cooled down.Therefor I have many fans 2x90 m3/h exhaust
at top, 2x25 m3/h backside and in the sideplate the Big Shurikan, 65 m3/h,
from the CPU to supply air to grafic card, SB and NB and last one
Noctua 90 m3/h feeding direct to the CPU fan.Plus one 50 m3/h at the bottom
supply to grafics and SB.

On the CPU I put a Noctua 90 m3/h high pressure fan to push throw the
narrow heatsink of the B-Shurikan as much air as possible.
This to increase cooling air (increase from 65 to90 m3/h)
This air comes direct from the room and is 22-23 degC by the fan in
the side plate.
I am trying to take out more than supplying to get the best airflow
as possible inside the chassi.By this air also will cool the NB,SB
and motherboard
Also the grafics give heat but at the same time work as exhaust fan.
Many things are important like how the paste on the CPU works as donductive
connection.
A good test showing applying paste (p9) and paste conductivity (p2):

I use a plastic on the table and get of the exsessive paste of.See my albums.

Another thing I've invested in is a good fan controller, Scythe Server, first
I had a Zalman but it broke down. This new I've noticed gives higher fan sppeeds and good control and automatics by tempsensors.
All fans, regulators, flows and volts are not precise and they are sold with
specifications of +- 10%. This gives in total situation for a fan when bad of -20%, i.e a fan of 1200rpm will run only 960rpm.
I've made some testing uring the build and don't think I can increase the cooling and lower the temps more. Axually I have been looking at the Kabuto and beleive it should bee able to do the job for OC.
I think I mentioned the most important parts I've done so have a look at my albums and evaluate my doing.
Hope it will be of some help to You.
Laws of nature "energi can not be destroyed just change and will be equalized until no more differens of energi level" This for all energi heat,pressure.......
My temps at the moment only OS running typing: CPU 34,MB 27,SB 41,NB 46degC.
Thanks for Y info will try.
Willy
