you should check this out if the sensors are ok
disconnect them from the controller and try one by one
you can try too with the extra 2 sensors included in the package
otherwise i am also afraid the controller is defect and need RMA

You nailed it.
One of the sensors had a short circuit, I replaced it with one of the spare ones and then everything worked fine.
